Inside STL (Gabe Dearmond): Talking Tiger tourney hopes
At 12-and-3, Missouri will need nine Big 12 wins to assure itself of a bid. That would put the Tigers at 21-and-10 in what will likely be the country's best conference heading into the Big 12 tournament. There are two keys, in my opinion, to getting to nine.
First, Missouri has to protect the home court. Kansas and Texas both come to Columbia. Yes, upsets happen, but Missouri doesn't match up well with those teams (neither does anyone else in America). Let's go ahead, for the sake of this discussion, and count those as losses. That means the Tigers MUST win the other six home games. Why? The road is a really tough place to win in the Big 12. Possibly Missouri's best team ever lost last year at Nebraska. Hilton Coliseum in Ames has been a nightmare for years for the Tigers. So has the Lloyd Noble Center in Norman. You can't count on going .500 on the road in league play, especially when you've had as much trouble away from home as the Tigers. That means you need to go 6-and-2 at home. Barring an upset over Texas or Kansas, that means Missouri has to beat Iowa State, Colorado, Nebraska, K-State, Oklahoma State and Texas A&M at Mizzou Arena. Doable, but far from easy. - The Trib (Steve Walentik): Big 12 Power Poll
