  • The Trib (Dave Matter): Emptying the Notebook

BTS Defensive Player of the Game
Like Pinkel said after the game, you have to circle a lot of names after a shutout. And this Missouri defense is absolutely decimated, especially at linebacker, so here’s a nod to Andrew Gachkar, who played all 76 snaps on defense and several more on special teams, while racking up a game-high seven tackles. My all-conference ballot is still in flux, but I think Gachkar is close to clinching a spot on my first team.

Defensive end Jacquies Smith deseres mention here, too. Before the season I wondered whether Smith could hold down his job along the defensive line. A year ago, he had just 1.5 tackles for loss against Big 12 competition and not a single sack. On Saturday he was a menace in the backfield with three tackles for loss, including two sacks. With one league game left, Smith has 7.5 TFLs against Big 12 competition and four sacks.
