  • ...So The QB's Important Then?
KC Star: SEC report: Winless teams share QB struggles

While defense gets most of the attention in the SEC, the four winless teams account for five of the lowest six passer-efficiency ratings. Both Missouri quarterbacks — James Franklin and Corbin Berkstresser — have enough pass attempts to qualify. Franklin is 10th; Berkstresser is 13th among 15 quarterbacks.

Speaking during a the weekly SEC coaches’ teleconference Wednesday, Kentucky coach Joker Phillips said a team’s passing problems are often related to its inability to consistently run the football. Kentucky, which Missouri plays on Homecoming Oct. 27 in Columbia after a bye week, is starting freshman quarterback Jalen Whitlow.

"I’m pleased with the way he’s handling things, but we’ve got to make more plays," Phillips said. "And we have to do a better job in the running game to take a lot of pressure of (our quarterback)."

The Trib: MU still pondering expansion timeline

Some designs for the east-side expansion have changed. The addition will now include about 350 more premium seats than first expected, Hickman said. That brings the total to about 1,200 seats, which will be located outside and under a large overhang. A financial study is behind the increase in seats, he said.

"We're still in what we call schematic design," he said of the east-side expansion. "We're just trying to hone in on what we want in the project and what all we can afford to put in the project. We're getting close to that."

The $1.5 million golf complex, located at The Club at Old Hawthorne, will soon be put out for bid and is expected to be completed by spring 2014.

Architects from 360 Architecture are fine-tuning the design of the new $4 million baseball clubhouse. It will attach to the team's current indoor batting area. The project is roughly on schedule for completion by the 2014 season.

It "will be close," Hickman said.
