Well hell, if I'd known it was going to be that kind of night on the hardwood (a "two ridiculous comebacks" night, to be specific), we'd have had ourselves a live thread...

The Trib (Dave Matter): "Tweaked shoulder" for Missouri's Franklin

Missouri was back in full pads on Faurot Field Tuesday afternoon, and by the end of practice, two more starters were watching from the sideline. Quarterback James Franklin took himself out of an 11-on-11 full-contact drill after coming out of a scrum for a loose ball near the goal line. Franklin, wearing a green jersey, which prohibits defenders from making contact, was scrambling along the sideline when he had the ball stripped and dived after it into a pile of bodies. After the play, Franklin called for backup quarterback Corbin Berkstresser and instantly met with trainer Rex Sharp.

After practice, Gary Pinkel said Franklin "tweaked his shoulder" — his right (throwing) shoulder, team spokesman Chad Moller later confirmed — but Pinkel was unsure of the severity of the injury. Offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach David Yost also said he wasn't sure how serious the injury was. Franklin did not do interviews after practice and was taken to the team facility to be examined. Berkstresser led the No. 1 offense the rest of the series and the ensuing series, finishing with a 3-yard touchdown to Gahn McGaffie.

    PowerMizzou: Tuesday Practice Report

Just a couple of potential depth chart things I noticed during stretch lines. Xavier Smith is now behind Gaines at one cornerback position while Robert Steeples was lined up on the other side third string behind Kip Edwards and Randy Ponder.

Kentrell Brothers is also second-string at one linebacker position right now.

And make no mistake about it, that’s what the guys currently practicing up front are going for. Tackles Matt Hoch, Lucas Vincent and Jimmy Burge have all had their moments in camp, while ends Kony Ealy, Michael Sam, Brayden Burnett and Shane Ray were all mentioned by coaches and teammates as players making an impact.

"Kony Ealy is playing at a different level — we have high expectations for him," said Missouri coach Gary Pinkel.

"Lucas Vincent played as a backup a little bit last year, but he’s a guy that runs well, benches 477, is a state wrestling champ …we’re starting to see him mature a little bit.

"Matt Hoch, the move inside has been good for him. Michael Sam is doing some good things."

The best thing, Pinkel added, is that everyone is expected back in the fall, including Richardson and Madison, two tough, experienced linemen who are each coming off shoulder surgery.

SEC (And Big 12)

Honestly? I was really happy to see that the Big 12 is circling in on a pretty big-time TV deal. Obviously this doesn't mean anything if Texas and/or Oklahoma decide to leave in a few years, but I'm all for the Big 12 being a viable, stable conference for decades into the future. As a football fan, the Big 12 produces probably the most fun major-conference football in the country, and I don't want anything to damage that. Since Missouri's move to the SEC was never about the money (or never just about the money, I guess), this news didn't exactly fill me with regret about the move (nor did it for anybody else, I assume). But as a sports fan in general, I think the Big 12's viability is a very good thing, and I hope this makes everything stable for the far foreseeable future.
