The Trib: MU facility improvements specified in document

A Board of Curators document indicated the majority of that total — $46.05 million — is devoted to the Memorial Stadium east-side addition. The project calls for about 5,200 extra bleacher seats and 800-900 premium seats at the football stadium. The structure will be built outside the current bowl footprint of the stadium. The current capacity of Memorial Stadium is 71,004.

There is also a request for $9.75 million for renovations to the stadium's west-side press box. A portion of the current press area will be converted to suites, with additional press seating moved to the upper deck of the facility.

"You're talking two NCAA tournament teams," Kentucky coach John Calipari said of the Tigers and Aggies. "I think seven teams in our league ... are going to be in the NCAA tournament. And I think that'll be from here on in."

Tennessee's Cuonzo Martin agreed with Calipari's prediction, and Auburn's Tony Barbee said it could even be eight. Only four SEC teams made the NCAA tournament field in 2012

One SEC coach who is very familiar with the league's two newest teams is new South Carolina coach Frank Martin, who came to Columbia this year from Kansas State. Martin, who sees the SEC as "the most underrated league in the country," said Missouri and Texas A&M will make it even stronger.
