We are winding down our tour of our new SEC foes, as this week we move our focus to the Kentucky Wildcats. Is it easy to get blinded by the shine of the basketball team's success? Sure, but I think some of us may be surprised at how well Kentucky does elsewhere. Afterall, the current SEC teams make up 12 of the top 51 spots in this year's Learfield Cup.

As always, we will review the last three years of records for each of the sports which Mizzou will be bringing to the SEC starting in July, along with the Mizzou results over the same time span (in bold and italics). Summary:

So while Kentucky has some solid programs, both with history (women's basketbal) and on the up and coming (soccer and volleyball), I could not quite place why they were so strong in Learfield. They have men's and women's Rifle teams, and came in 2nd in the NCAA, which certainly helped the points a bit :-)

2011-2012 did seem like a better year for the 'Cats than they have had in awhile, so it will be interesting to see how the trends continue. Not too strong in some sports (track, golf and swimming) but certainly competant on the diamond and other areas.

Next week, the final review...finally :-)
