Mizzou Links, 10-10-13: UGa's offense will be fine, and winning is fun

Chris Conley is terrifying in the open field, Aaron Murray throws a pretty ball, and winning is more fun than losing.

Your cold update, brought to you by disgusting Halls butterscotch lozenges: Now it's all in my nose. That's 100000% better than being in my ears. Can't even fathom how much I snored last night.

This has been your cold update, brought to you by disgusting Halls butterscotch lozenges.

1. Two days to Georgia

Post-Dispatch: A closer look: Georgia Bulldogs

Chris Conley, a 6-3 junior, leads UGA with 20 catches for 318 yards and three touchdowns. He was barely a factor in a Week 2 win over South Carolina but came up big against Clemson and LSU. Four of his catches have come on third down, for 92 yards and two touchdowns. Five of his catches have gained at least 25 yards and half his total, 10, have gone for at least 15. His 20 catches equals his 2012 total, when Conley had only two games with more than two catches.

Rhett McGowan, a 6-foot senior, is listed as UGA’s starting split end. He has 26 career receptions over four seasons, including just six for 58 yards this season. He’s never caught more than two passes in an SEC game.

Backup contributors include Rantavious Wooten, a 5-10 senior, has 42 career catches, including a career-best six in Saturday’s overtime win at Tennessee; Kenneth Towns, a 6-3 redshirt freshman walk-on who’s never caught a pass; Michael Erdman, a 5-10 junior walk-on who had two catches — in the G-Day Game (Georgia’s spring scrimmage), after which he earned the team’s Coffee County Hustle Award.

Conley is not a week-for-week contributor yet -- he's still a little inconsistent -- but man oh man, is he terrifying.

"Fatbodies"
The Trib (Behind the Stripes): Georgia's Mark Richt says Missouri is a 'hot' team, despite lack of 'fatbodies'

In short, Richt says Missouri is on a roll.

"They look great. They're in great condition. They really are athletic, move well," Richt said of the Tigers' defensive line. "They don't have a bunch of big old fatbodies, that's for sure. They're big men. They're tall, broad and all that, but they're pretty lean, muscle-mass looking guys that look like they're in tremendous condition.

"I'm impressed with them. What they do, they do well. Offensively, they're like a machine. Really look like a well-oiled machine. Defensively, they don't do a lot of stuff, but what they do there, they do extremely well. They're heavy on execution there at Missouri. They've got the right personnel in the right spots and they're coaching them up."

Missouri Coach Gary Pinkel was eloquent in simplicity during his opening statement.

"We're a lot different football team than we were five weeks ago," Pinkel said.

And here I thought no one was going to bring it up
KC Star: Look who’s playing ‘old man football’ now: It’s Missouri

Team A leads the Southeastern Conference in rushing; Team B ranks second in passing offense.

Team A leads the SEC in sacks per game and is third in rushing defense. Team B ranks dead last in scoring defense.

Teams A and B square off this weekend, and if a player from Team B wanted to consider the statistics and pop off, he could brand his opponent’s style "old man football."

Team A is Missouri. Team B is Georgia. Funny how quickly things can change.
