Mizzou Interim Head Coach Tim Fuller
Opening Statement...
"Southeastern Louisiana did a great job, Coach Yarborough is an experienced coach, he's seen a lot of wins. We went into the game knowing they had great offensive players on the perimeter, and Coach Leitao did a great job on the scout to prepare us for their three-point shooting. We are excited about our perimeter play with Jabari Brown and Earnest Ross and we went out and tried to guard the basketball as best we could."
On his relationship with Coach Frank Haith...
"I feel like he never left, I feel like he's a part of me. He's helped raise me since I was 19 years old, so I quietly hear him talking when I'm out there coaching."
On making his head coaching debut...
"I was emotional before we went out there. My stomach was turning quite heavily in the locker room, but when we went out on the court, all I thought was, `we have to win'".
On the scoring...
"I was focused on getting other players scoring, giving them confidence. I kept in my head how many shots other players were getting because I know there will come a game when Jordan's in foul trouble, Jabari's not hitting and Earnest can't get his shot going, so we're going to need Ryan and Stefan and Wes Clark to what they did tonight."
The Trib: Rookie Clark helps Missouri rout Southeastern Louisiana
Freshman Wes Clark was thrust into playing heavy minutes with Pressey's replacement, Tulsa transfer Jordan Clarkson, finding early foul trouble. He scored 10 points and had three assists in the first half and finished with 13 points, seven rebounds and four assists in the game as the Tigers routed the Lions 89-53 at Mizzou Arena with Fuller, MU's associate head coach, at the helm while Haith began serving his five-game NCAA-mandated suspension.
"We've seen those two a lot in practice, and there is no drop-off," Fuller said. "When Wes comes in the game, he gives us the same energy and same burst."
The scrappy 6-foot-1 guard, who led Romulus High School to a Michigan state championship last season, provided Missouri with a big spark in his debut.
