You know how people have to make a disclaimer when talking about time travel? Like, "If you could go back in time and do anything (other than kill Hitler), what would you do?" I think my own personal disclaimer when it comes to music and pop culture would be "If you could go back in time and do anything (other than stop Total Request Live from taking hold), what would you do?" Man oh man, did pop culture skew into a pretty awful alternate reality of polished teen pop stars and screaming kiddies in Times Square that year...
(And yes, I know screaming kiddies have always been part of pop culture. But in 1997, they weren't the dominant force they became in 1998...)
...that said, these are great (and depressing) reads, especially the Dave Holmes one. Well done, Vulture (screw you, Vulture).
