The Trib: Pressey discusses draft decisionSaid Haith: “His speed definitely gives him a chance in that league right away. Getting in the lane and playing in an up-tempo system, I think he’s going to be very good. Phil is one of the best passers I’ve ever been around. He sees things happening that others don’t see. That’s his biggest strength, and that will be his calling card when given a chance to play in the NBA.”
But teams could also be wary of drafting him because of his lack of size — he’s listed at 5-foot-11 on Missouri’s roster — his erratic shooting and his penchant for making questionable decisions late in games. He shot a career-worst 37.6 percent from the field, including 32.4 percent from beyond the 3-point arc, and also faced criticism for a series of mistakes he made in close losses to UCLA, LSU, Texas A&M, Arkansas, Kentucky and Tennessee.
He said he’s prepared to try to address his weaknesses over the next two months while getting ready for the draft, which will be held June 27 at Madison Square Garden in New York. He will leave Columbia next Thursday to begin intense preparation and expects to take part in the NBA’s scouting combine held May 15-19 in Chicago.
“Right now, I’m just trying to get better just shooting the ball and ball-handling,” Pressey said. “I mean, from top to bottom, me as a player, it all needs work. I know I’m not perfect. Nobody’s perfect. Everybody’s always working on something. I feel like when you work on stuff, you can’t just work on one aspect of your game. You have to work on all of them.”

**********
Dropped in on Stone Bridge/O'Connell softball to check out see if @mizzousoftball signee Tori Finucane lives up to the legend.
— Ross Taylor (@RTaylorTX) April 10, 2013
This is legit, by the way. Two undefeateds. Parking lots jammed. People parking on the streets. Get it, NoVa HS softball.
— Ross Taylor (@RTaylorTX) April 10, 2013
1st inning: Leadoff batter saw 7 pitches before grounding to SS. Finucane follows with two Ks on a combined 8 pitches to next two batters.
— Ross Taylor (@RTaylorTX) April 10, 2013
Finucane just hit a batter and proved that "softball" is a misnomer.
— Ross Taylor (@RTaylorTX) April 10, 2013
Stone Bridge can ball. Given how O'Connell/Finucane have steamrolled everyone this year, glad I'm seeing them have to battle at a high level
— Ross Taylor (@RTaylorTX) April 10, 2013
Finucane's pop on the hard stuff is impressive, but it's the change in speed on the off-speed that's keeping Stone Bridge off the board.
— Ross Taylor (@RTaylorTX) April 10, 2013
She's stranded runners on third twice by inducing weak grounders to 3B by throwing offspeed to righties.
— Ross Taylor (@RTaylorTX) April 10, 2013
Finucane gives up 2B to left center and a BB. Gets angry, K's one batter, then does this to end threat. Wow.telly.com/DWIQO1
— Ross Taylor (@RTaylorTX) April 10, 2013
BTW, I came out to specifically watch one player and stumbled headfirst into one hell of a softball game on a gorgeous night. Awesome.
— Ross Taylor (@RTaylorTX) April 10, 2013
O'Connell scores two, and the first run on the board was the courtesy runner who entered for Finucane after she singled. M-I-Z.
— Ross Taylor (@RTaylorTX) April 11, 2013
TF10 eerily similar to CT18 in this way: Good hitters can get on base, but has a preternatural comfort with working way out of jams.
— Ross Taylor (@RTaylorTX) April 11, 2013
Case in point: Up 2 in 6th, allows 1B and a BB w/ no outs. Strikes out the next 3. If memory serves, has stranded 4 in scoring pos. tonight.
— Ross Taylor (@RTaylorTX) April 11, 2013
O'Connell seals it, 3-0, on this pitch from TF10.
— Ross Taylor (@RTaylorTX) April 11, 2013
— Ross Taylor (@RTaylorTX) April 11, 2013
Couple final thoughts: So much of the success of dominant HS pitchers predicated on sheer power against overmatched HS hitters.
— Ross Taylor (@RTaylorTX) April 11, 2013
Her stuff was not dominant tonight against a solid opponent, but the encouraging thing is this kid can "pitch" and not just throw.
— Ross Taylor (@RTaylorTX) April 11, 2013
Thus concludes "Young Professional Mizzou Expatriate Live Tweets High School Softball" for the evening. Get 'em, Coach Stubble. #MIZ
