Missouri Head Coach Gary Pinkel
On the victory over Vanderbilt:
"Winning is not easy. One thing I told my players is that every win is a great win. Every win. Because it’s very, very hard to win. That being said, when we get up tomorrow we’ll evaluate this game like we do any game, win or lose. Obviously what stands out to me right now is that we had 14 penalties for 100 yards. I’m not going to deal with the team about that now because this isn’t the appropriate time to do it. We need to find a way to win, and we did. We did the right things in the fourth quarter to win. We did very well, and I’m very pleased with our victory."
On the team’s excitement about another SEC win:
"Of course they’re excited. I don’t care, it’s hard to win. I told you that a long time ago. Everybody just wants us to go out and have everything come easy. Well it’s not like that. There are lessons to learn there. But we also haven’t played our best football game yet, and we need to do that." [...]
On the offense’s play in the fourth quarter:
"You talk about a big play, on a big stage, in a big game, (Bud Sasser’s touchdown catch) is huge. The first half, I think we had it four times. We scored one touchdown and one field goal. I think we only had it four times. One time we had a third down that was dropped across the middle, going in across the plus-30. Another time we missed a field goal somewhere in there too. The numbers are a little better than we made it look, but overall I saw progress." [...]
On running the ball a little more than usual today:
"Coach Henson talked a lot at the hotel yesterday, and we wanted to establish our run game and get that back to where it was. And that’s going to open up the passing game, as well, when they stack guys in the box."

Post-Dispatch: Mizzou savors signs of offense
By snapping Mizzou’s two-game home losing streak, Mauk might have put a muzzle on the mob of fans calling for backup quarterback Eddie Printz. His stat line looked more like an average half of production for Mizzou quarterbacks of past years, but Mauk rarely looked skittish or reckless.
"He was playing more comfortable," right guard Connor McGovern said. "I remember he came off the sideline and said, ‘Man, I stepped up (in the pocket). That felt good.’ That’s what we’ve been trying to get him to do because it makes it easier on us when he steps up. … As a team, it was a step in the right direction, especially for the offense. Everybody played better this game." [...]
Asked why the Tigers were still passing at that point, Pinkel deadpanned, "I knew we were going to score."
When the interview room went quiet, Pinkel tried to break the tension.
"That was supposed to be funny," he said.
