Grading the Missouri defense after five games
Your defensive MVPs thus far: Shane Ray (8.69), Markus Golden (8.00), Michael Scherer (7.67), Kentrell Brothers (7.53), and Harold Brantley (7.08). Oh yeah, and Christian Brinser (7.91).
As far as on the field, "It was a little bit of both," he said. "Some of it was receivers and some of it was Maty. We’ve all got a responsibility and we’ve just got to work hard to make it right."
He said he’s going in for treatment three or four times a day and expects to start practicing with the team Tuesday. "Probably not doing a lot," White said. "Just trying to see how it feels playing, cutting and everything. I’m just happy to be out there with the team, not trying to rush everything. It’s a slow process, because I don’t want to aggravate it again."
"We haven’t tackled in practice since the fall" camp, Scherer said. "We had a couple periods where we actually did tackle and take guys to the ground, because that’s going to be a huge deal. If you watch a lot of his long runs, he’s breaking three, four, five tackles. When you get him down the first time and limit those extra yards, you have a better chance at being successful."
For the Tigers, there’s no magic defensive scheme to slow Gurley, who missed last year’s Mizzou game in Athens, Ga., with an ankle injury. To avoid appearances on Gurley’s Heisman clips, the Tigers understand their mission. It starts with sure tackling.
"We’ve really got to grab body parts," Steckel said. "If you go high, he’ll run you over. If you go low, he’ll jump over the top of you. The key is grabbing body parts. Yes, I don’t care what body part we grab … as long as it’s not the back of the neck or the facemask."

Assuming that's not the case, the Lakers' other options, Jeremy Lin and Jordan Clarkson, each left their own marks tonight. Lin totaled ten dimes alongside only one turnover, while Clarkson finished only 3-13, but his six free throw attempts and five rebounds more than compensated for his expected inefficiency. Clarkson showed the athleticism that made him an interesting point guard prospect, while Lin offset his 0-6 shooting by attacking the basket and creating efficient opportunities, including an alley-oop to close the game.
