Mizzou 59 Illinois 62 Braggin Rights Recap: Close but no cigar

New, 10 comments

In a game Mizzou played some of the best basketball of all season, it took a damn good, and lucky 3 pointer by Illinois senior Rayvonte Rice at the buzzer to seal the win.

That's a tough shot and I'm not sure you could defend it much better. To be in that position took a tremendous effort from a very young team that saw some growth and production out of it's youth.

Notable depth chart changes today:

Very happy to see that Kim Anderson is moving toward a small ball line up that puts the most athletic and youngest players on the court to grow, especially in the highest pressure atmosphere many of them had faced this season. Ryan Rosburg saw limited minutes and Keanau Post never came off the bench and that's probably the best thing for this team moving forward.

Kim Anderson isn't settling for moral victories

Even if some of us fans are, and that's a good thing. All week I let a sneaking suspicion fester, that Mizzou would upset Illinois because they had a full week to prepare and because Kim Anderson views this as an important game on the schedule both for this year and historically. You could tell by the way he coached and managed the game that the team was still raw but motivated by that same focus.
