There is not a better, more redeeming story in Mizzou's 2014 recruiting class than this one.

The Hillcrest senior, nine days removed from his final treatment for leukemia, found the end zone for the first time in three years on a tipped pass from quarterback Matt Rush late in the third quarter of the Hornets’ 49-21 victory over West Plains on Friday night.

"It’s been a long time coming," Green-Beckham said. "Matt got me hyped up for it and told me it was coming to me. I wasn’t expecting the celebration but it meant a lot.

"We love each other."

After Green-Beckham’s touchdown grab – which gave the Hornets a commanding 42-14 lead – the entire Hillcrest sideline stormed the end zone to celebrate with their teammate. The 15-yard penalty for excessive celebration seemed worth it, and West Plains’ coach Steve Ary took it in stride.

"I don’t have a problem with any of it," Ary said. "My job is to coach and the players’ job is to play. He’s had a long fight and he’s battled and that’s alright.

"I’m happy for Darnell."
