The women's basketball team won the Hilton Concord Thanksgiving Classic over the weekend in two very different games. First, the game summaries:
The Northeastern game was very much an inside game, as the Tigers were only 3-11 from three point range. Mizzou matched their lowest spread of the season with a 13 point victory, but the game was most notable for the fact that Sophie Cunningham was held scoreless in 35 minutes of action. She did dish out seven assists, and her sister Lindsey had perhaps her best game of the season, though:
For the second game of the weekend, Jordan Frericks led the trifecta again, but Sierra Michaelis had a very healthy adjusted game score per minute of 1.16 as Mizzou made 14 three-pointers:
Season to date, the Tigers are led, as might be expected, by their star freshman, McDonald's All-American Sophie Cunningham, and 2nd team All SEC forward junior Jordan Frericks. More surprising may be the big contribution from the other freshman from Rock Bridge, Cierra Porter. She has displayed some solid inside moves, good interior passing, and a sweet left-handed stroke from the free throw line. Junior Sierra Michaelis is the other major game score contributor.
After the five starters (the other being sophomore Lindsey Cunningham at the point), minutes are remarkably evenly split between the remainder of the squad. This may change as the competition gets tougher. Here are the average stats for the season-to-date:
Up next for the Tigers are the SE Missouri State Redhawks on Wednesday and Loyola Marymount next Monday. Both of these games are available on SEC Network +. After that is the best team remaining on the non-conference schedule: Mizzou plays at Colorado on Dec. 12 at 2:30 p.m. The game will be available on the Pac-12 network.
