Mizzou Football Recruiting: Trey Baldwin among those visiting this weekend

New, 16 comments

Barry Odom and his partial staff are out recruiting this week. Let's check on where he's been and how it's going.

Currently committed elsewhere

Tre Bryant, the highly coveted running back out of CBC in St. Louis, has been committed to Nebraska since November. There was some speculation that Mizzou might be able to get back into the sweepstakes for Bryant once Odom got on the recruiting trail, but he erased any doubt about that last night.

The same would appear to be the case for Lafayette TE Brendan Scales, currently committed to Alabama. Given Alabama's success, sticking with the Tide makes a lot of sense and he can hardly be criticized for it.

Current Mizzou commits

Another update on Trey Baldwin, Mizzou's early enrollee also gives a hint as to who Barry Odom may be keeping from the support staff -- offensive analyst Kendall Bradley.

Baldwin confirmed to me that he'll be in Columbia this weekend, along with several other Missouri targets and plans on being on campus by January.

DeMarkus Acy:

A day after meeting with Odom and position coach Ryan Walters, Acy tweeted this to Clay J. Jennings, DB coach for The University of Arkansas.

Acy has also been tweeting out links to his highlight film on Hudl pretty prodigiously the last few days which suggests to this innocent bystander that his recruitment isn't locked up.

Darius Anderson:

Darius Anderson, a 3* running back out of Richmond, Texas, was the subject of that odd situation earlier this year where it was reported he'd committed according to his father but he wanted to wait to make it official. His lead recruiter was AJ Ricker.

Jerod Alton:

Tucker McCann:

Trystan Castillo:

The 6'4" 280 lbs offensive line reportedly had a fantastic visit to Minnesota last weekend but told interim-turned-head coach Tracy Claeys the same thing he told his lead recruiter Andy Hill - that he still wanted to consider his options.

He's also being heavily recruited by new Iowa State head coach Matt Campbell

Some new names

Trevour Simms:

According to a Scout report, Trevour Simms has already picked up an offer and plans on visiting this Friday.

Trevour Simms is a 6'3, 317 lbs 3* offensive guard, per Rivals, from ESL where Cornell Ford has made some inroads landing Natereace Strong and Terry Beckner Jr. Simms has been committed to Illinois since June but it's possible that the shakeup of coaching staffs at both Mizzou and Illinois could give him reason to consider.

Hayden Johnson:

I'm told if anyone could flip him it would be Mizzou but he's very loyal and wants to play fullback. Mizzou had offensive struggles but did attempt to run more H-back formations this year with tight ends Sean Culkin and Jason Reese.

Caleb Evans

A 6'3" 180 QB from Dallas, Texas, Evans' visit to Columbia would strongly suggest Odom is looking for a QB for this class and perhaps that we could see a transfer from the current QB depth chart.

Marvin Terry:

The 4-star defensive end, who's lead recruiter is Ryan Walters, will reportedly be in town this weekend on an official visit.

2017 Mizzou football recruiting

AJ Epenesa is a 6'5, 255-pound four- or five-star defensive end according to either Rivals or 247 who's been heavily recruited by Mizzou for a while. His recruitment was between Craig Kuligowski and Cornell Ford, but with Kuligowski's position on Mizzou's staff in question, Odom has made a special visit.

If you skip to 2:20 mark, Epenesa talks about receiving an offer from Alabama and on meeting with new head coach Barry Odom on Monday.

And per the twitters, Mizzou also has a new offer out in Texas, to 6'4" 300 lb offensive lineman, Will Farrar.

I would also be remiss if I failed to note Baron Odom, nephew of Mizzou's head coach, is a 2017 tight end without an offer from the Tigers. The 6'4 210 prospect was recently ranked the #13 prospect in Oklahoma,

Odom, the latest in a long line of Southeast Oklahoma Odoms, is a skilled receiver at tight end. Though he clearly is best as a flex tight end Odom showed improvement as a junior in his edge blocking.

I wouldn't expect any nepotism from Mizzou's new head coach, but he's certainly on the radar.

2018 Recruits!

This just popped up on the twitter but Dallas Craddeith, a 6'1" 180 lbs WR from Hazelwood Central has an offer from Missouri. So far it's his only offer per Rivals but the hometown athlete told Scout.com that he grew up a fan of Missouri and dreamed of playing for the Tigers.
