For someone who never loses, Cox took his defeat and the team’s lousy day with good sportsmanship and good spirits. He shook the hands of the Ohio State coaches, hugged his family members and spoke philosophically with reporters.

"Not winning a national championship is not going to make me a failure," Cox said. "Not having fun and loving what I do will make me a failure. I want to love what I do and have fun doing it. And I am. And I did."

Not winning a national championship doesn’t make this season a failure for Missouri, either. The Tigers will have five All-Americans, which ties a program record, and have a chance to equal the all-time best team finish of third in 2007.

But with a national championship a realistic goal, Missouri sure picked a bad day to have a bad day.
