Mizzou took a 4-1 lead on UCLA in Game 1 of the Super Regionals, but the UCLA offense couldn't be held in check. Paige Lowary faded after a few innings, presumably due in part to the illness she was suffering last weekend (you don't lose 10 pounds, then immediately regain your full strength), and Tori Finucane struggled with control when she came in. UCLA tied the game at 4-4 in the third, scored two more in the fourth, and cruised to a 7-4 lead.

As soon as the pitching let up a little bit, Mizzou's chances went from good to nonexistent. That will be the same case today; if Finucane is able to relax, or if Lowary is able to give another 3-5 good innings over the course of two games, Mizzou could take both games today and advance to the World Series. But when you lose the first game, that makes things awfully tricky.

Game 2 starts at 2:00 p.m. CT on ESPNU.

Mizzou Tigers pennant This dude...

Terrence Phillips is going to be a lot of people's favorite Tiger really soon. He might be already. I'm not sure I've ever seen an out-of-stater embrace the school this much before he even shows up on campus.
