The 2015 pre-season watch lists for the Maxwell and Bednarik Awards were released this morning, and three Tigers made the cut.
Kentrell Brothers is Missouri's lone representative on the Bednarik Award watch list, given to the nation's top defensive player.. He looks to improve upon a stellar 2014 campaign, in which he led the team with 122 total tackles, good for second in the SEC. This season has the potential to be a special one for Brothers, as he transitions to a revamped defense that will put more focus on active linebacker play.
Russell Hansbrough and Maty Mauk both made the Maxwell Award watch list, which goes to the top offensive player in the nation. Hansbrough topped 1,000 yards rushing in 2014. His 1,084 yards were the sixth-highest total in the SEC. Mauk threw for 2,648 yards last season, which is fourth-best among returning SEC quarterbacks. Both players hope to improve upon those numbers this year in their pursuit of this prestigious award.
