Song of the Week with DJ Beatz
DJ Beatz: With the Tigers now 2-0 for the start of the season they are nothing short than rock stars so, This week I chose N.E.R.D.'s Rock Star for song of the week! Let's keep the streak alive and continue to show the world what we represent!
- Former Missouri basketball player Alex Oriakhi played for the Huskies in a previous stint. Thank you for sending him our way, UConn.
- UConn keeps a live husky mascot named Jonathan. The current iteration - Jonathan XIV - is almost two years old and goddamn adorable.
Yes, I just used that as an excuse to watch puppy videos. No one is upset about this.
1. Missouri is fresh off a disastrous offensive performance, and the UConn defense should be solid. What is the least amount of success you'll find acceptable?
BillSelfsToupee - Winning. Score points. Don't care how. Just win baby!
Fullback University - If UConn stays in the game because the offense keeps putting the defense in bad field position and keeps this game closer than 20 I will be personally offended and outraged.
Jack Peglow - Mizzou should be able to score at least twenty points. Probably. Please?
HHKB Chris - The offense was offensive, oh my. All I care about is that Mizzou scores more than UConn and their terrible awful hideous garbage fans.
The Beef - The least amount of success I will take is a one point win. I don’t believe in style points in September. Will that one-point win potentially expose other issues which may be troubling? Certainly, but a one point win is still a one point win. I think Vegas may be a little off on this line, but who knows what the home crowd will do for the confidence of the offense and especially the WR’s. Perhaps the first road game dialed up the nerves of the young WR group.
switzy227 - Wins are wins. Remember the SC game last year? Remember how much better we were later in the season? That stuff happens. It will happen again (at least some of the time). But at the same time, I would love to see highlights impressive enough that I want to watch them again.
AlaTiger - Just win. A win is a win is a win. Style points might make me more optimistic about future games, but I'll worry about those games when they get here. Just win this one.
Sam Snelling - As long as it looks visibly like they're making progress I think the fan base will remain patient with the coaching staff and give them more time to fix the obvious problems. (side note: I imported this line from one of my basketball articles, we'll see if anyone notices)
kacc56 - As long as no one gets hurt and we come out with a W, I'll be fine. That being said, I need to see more from the run game than we've seen thus far. Another game where we struggle to move the ball on the ground will leave me concerned about the rest of the season.
2. The offense's success will likely hinge on the play of the wide-bodies up front. In your opinion, what would be the ideal bonding activity for them to participate in to better gel as a unit?
BST - Mud wrestling vs the the softball team. Kinda like that scene in Stripes with John Candy.
Fullback - Going to the movies with Drew Lock.
Peglow - Jaeger Pilot training. We need our offensive line to all be able to Drift with one another. Perfectly in sync, an entire unit working as a single entity.
HHKB - There's only one thing a man can do when he's suffering from a spiritual and existential funk, buy new suits. So fellas, to the mall with you!
Beef - Coaches driving around campus on golf carts throwing things at them would be bound to raise spirits and success rates.
switzy227 - I think they should be dancers in a Mizzou Theatre production of Gershwin songs. Or whatever it was Coach Jay Thomas' players did in Mr. Holland's Opus.
AlaTiger - Watch Pitch Perfect and Pitch Perfect 2 and then work up some a cappella numbers to share with the team.
Snelling - Medieval LARPing
kacc56 - Can we get the guys dancing to Christmas music in the parking lot again? It seemed to work pretty well last time.
3. Missouri's best offense this year - much like last year - is going to be the defense. Let's take that line of thinking to its logical conclusion: which player on the defense would you like to see playing on the other side of the ball, what position would they play, and why?
BST - Penton or Dennis. Strong, fast, guys who go for it and don't give no damns.
Fulback - Line Kenya Dennis up as a RB, I bet he could break off some good runs and score a touchdown.
Peglow - Terry Beckner Jr. Fullback. If Robert Nkemdiche can do it, why can't Beckner?
HHKB - Charles Harris, Power Forward, you know he used to play basketball in high school. Mizzou makes the final four, book it.
Beef - Considering he caught two passes last week, I’d say I would like to see Kentrell Brothers as a H-back/TE.
switzy227 - Josh Augusta. Fullback. You're welcome.
AlaTiger - Nate Howard, RB. He would be Mizzou's own version of Derrick Henry.
Snelling - Kentrell catches the ball pretty well, so somebody who catches the ball on offense would be pretty cool.
kacc56 - Now that my number one choice, Ray Wingo, is playing on O, I'd love to see Aarion Penton get some touches as a slot WR/RB type. He's very quick and could offer some much-needed explosiveness.
The leaderboard is still as packed as ever.
- BillSelfsToupee, The Beef, Fullback U, and HHKB Chris (5 correct picks)
- Jack Peglow, switzy227, Sam Snelling, and AlaTiger (4 correct picks)

We're starting to see more variability in our picks! Hooray!
Here's to an improved offensive performance, y'all. Hopefully we fare better against the pups than Fred "McDreamy" Hoiberg and Tom "Also Mark Dantonio" Izzo did when I made these GIFs.
