DeMarkus Acy signed with Missouri on February 3 and is heading from Dallas to Columbia later this year. Acy was one of the most highly sought-after safeties in the country, choosing Missouri over N.C. State, Oklahoma, and Texas among others. I was able to catch up with Acy and interview him about what it means to officially be a Missouri Tiger.

Ethan Triebsch: Tell us a little bit about yourself, your life, and your background.

DeMarkus Acy: I came from nothing and had to work for everything I got. I am from the Dallas area and mostly grew up in the Highland Hills neighborhood and moved to Wilmer at the start of high school.

When did you start playing football? Why did you start playing football and who or what got you into the sport?

I started playing football when I was four. I started playing so I could stay out of trouble and do something positive. My Mama got me into the sport.

Were there any Mizzou players you grew up watching? Were you a fan of Mizzou growing up?

The only player I knew was Jeremy Maclin, but I never really watched Mizzou growing up.

Which football player did you grow up wanting to be? Who do you model your game after?

I wanted to be Sean Taylor and still do. That's who I emulate my game after.

What do you and the coaches feel are the biggest strengths and weaknesses in your game and what are you doing to improve?

My biggest strengths are my speed, physicality, and awareness. My weakness is the weight room in my opinion. That's what I need to improve on.

What about Mizzou made you feel like it was the right place for you?

I chose Mizzou because I felt the most comfortable there and wanted to play in the best conference, the SEC.

Missouri probably seems somewhat far away for your family, how much pressure did you have to stay closer to home?

No pressure at all. My family let me make my own decision.

What do you want your role to be at Mizzou?

I want to be an all around player and play every position possible to help the team.

What was your recruitment like? Did it change with the new coaching staff?

My recruitment had to be the best experience of my life and it made me real humble. It didn't change at all with the new staff, they still treated me like family and I didn't feel like it was fake.

Which players are you most looking forward to playing with?

Probably Terry Beckner Jr. and Anthony Sherrils.

Is there a specific team you're looking forward to playing?

I'm looking forward to playing all of them.

How do you prepare for a football game?

Get a good stretch going, hit up the trainer to get me right with some tape, and jam a little Kodak Black and Young Dolph.

What do you like to do when you're not in school or playing football?

I like to spend time with my friends and family and just chill.

What do you hope to accomplish at Mizzou?

Win a national championship, become the Jim Thorpe Award Winner, and be considered the best player to ever come through Mizzou.

Anything else you want Mizzou fans to know?

Getcha popcorn ready. M-I-Z...
