STUBBLE DRIVE
The Trib (Blake Toppmeyer): Around the horn with BYU softball Coach Gordon Eakin
Q: What do you feel like the strengths are of your [BYU] squad?
Eakin: "This team is a little bit complex, hard to figure out. It seems to be different every weekend, what we can hang our hat on. I think it’s easier to say that we have a good body of experience in our players. A lot of them have played a lot of games and a lot of regionals, but the thing that we can point to that we need to have to be successful going forward is we need to be more consistent in all three areas – pitching, hitting and defense.
"We’ve lacked a little bit of that consistency through the season. When we’re hitting, we’re not defending well. When we’re pitching well, we’re not hitting well. We’re hoping that all that’s coming together at the right time."
I asked Nebraska Coach Rhonda Revelle today for her impressions of Ehren Earleywine. They coached against each other dating to Big 12 days
— Blake Toppmeyer (@btoppmeyer) May 17, 2016
She said she doesn't know Earleywine very well, adding that the longest thing they had to a conversation came during regionals 2 years ago.
— Blake Toppmeyer (@btoppmeyer) May 17, 2016
What stands out to Revelle most about Earleywine is this: "He’s been able to see talent that maybe others couldn’t see or didn't see."
— Blake Toppmeyer (@btoppmeyer) May 17, 2016
She specifically noted how Earleywine developed diamonds in the rough like Rhea Taylor and Taylor Gadbois

I’ll still be helping out @PowerMizzoucom some, but I won’t be as active. Thanks to all the followers and fans that gave me this opportunity

.@btaustin started as our video guy, and ended up owning the recruiting beat better than anyone. His development as a reporter blew me away

Even more so, @btaustin became a great road-trip companion and even better friend. He also had his hand in helping me break tons of news.
