Mizzou Tigers pennant Barry Odom talks about satellites

The Trib (Blake Toppmeyer): SEC teleconference: Odom talks satellite camps, MATC project talks, etc.

On whether he’s settled on out-of-state locations for satellite camps MU will be part of …

"We think it’s very, very important, No. 1, to stay on our campus and get prospects on our campus, because we’ve got an unbelievable setup here for kids to see, get around our coaching staff and get coached by them. So I’m looking forward to that, No. 1.

"We will do one in St. Louis, we will do one in Kansas City, inside our state, and then, obviously, the areas that we will recruit heavily for us, try to match up and get as many evaluations as we can this summer. We obviously respect the decision of the Board of Directors that they voted on. It will be a busy summer. We will be in Dallas specifically and the Texas area four or five times. We’ll get down into Mississippi and over into Georgia and Florida."

KC Star: Barry Odom expounds on Mizzou’s satellite camp plans, reacts to Michigan’s visit to KC

Harbaugh, the Michigan coach who touched off a national debate last spring when he toured the country as a guest instructor at clinics through the Southeastern Conference’s recruiting territory, so-called "satellite camps," is setting up shop in the Tigers’ back yard.

"You look across the country, that’s happening everywhere," Odom said Wednesday during a teleconference for SEC East coaches. "The University of Missouri will do a great job when recruiting our state. We’re going to do a great job continuing to develop the relationships that we have. … I understand that we’re going to have some people recruit the state of Missouri and I look forward for us to doing the same."

Mizzou Tigers pennant 10 years ago Missouri Tigers: Where they were 10 years ago

Notable: The Tigers raced out to a 6-0 start, the team’s first such start since 1973 and cracked the Top 25. However, Mizzou lost four of its final six regular-season games to finish up 8-4 and tied for second in the Big 12 North Division. One of those losses, to Iowa State, was particularly gut-wrenching because the Tigers scored what looked like the potential game-winning touchdown in the final minute but it was called back for holding, a call the Big 12 later acknowledged was incorrect. It was Chase Daniel’s first season as a full-time starter and the sophomore put up big numbers, throwing for 3,527 yards and 28 touchdowns with 10 interceptions en route to becoming a second-team All-Big 12 choice. The season ended with another loss that was decided in the final minute, as the Tigers saw a 14-point fourth-quarter lead over Oregon State disappear in the Sun Bowl. The Beavers scored a touchdown with 22 seconds left and opted for a two-point conversion and the win rather than a point-after kick attempt and a potential shot at overtime. The gamble paid off, leading to a 39-38 Oregon State win.

Great. Now I'm ticked off about that Iowa State holding call all over again. Daniel nearly killed himself to score there, and it was called back because Monte Wyrick tried to hold but failed. But on the bright side...

Mizzou Tigers pennant Oh okay then

Wanting a big instead of another guard makes perfect sense from the perspective of roster construction, but ... it's not like size was a sudden need. Not sure why they tried to bring him to campus in the first place if they were going to change plans a few days before the visit.

In the battle to make the conference tournament, it would greatly behoove Mizzou to win this series. One problem: Mississippi State is No. 3 in the country. #14 @MizzouSoftball Hosts South Carolina in Regular Season Home Finale

South Carolina is not No. 3 in the country. So hooray for that.
