"You can take 70 on a trip. I want 70 leaders." Barry Odom on captains, game prep, changes, etc.

Here are today's Mizzou Links.

Mizzou Tigers pennant 8 days to WVU

The Trib (Blake Toppmeyer): MU notes: Talking game-week preparation, eclipses, and team strong man

Thursday’s practice was treated like a Thursday game-week practice, Odom said, and Friday, after practice, the team will go to a hotel and pretend as if it was on a road trip. On Saturday, the team will start practice around the same time as next week’s game in Morgantown, W.V, which is slated for an 11 a.m. kickoff (noon Eastern).

"We need it, I need it, just to go through the 48-hour preparation part as we get closer to the game," Odom said. … "I don’t want the first time that all these guys have been through it being next week, so it will be good experience for us all."

Post-Dispatch: Odom adopts new captain policy

The Tigers will have four or five captains each week, not necessarily the same four or five players all season. He’s suggested underclassmen will be eligible. Odom doesn’t want leadership roles to be limited to just four seniors. Under Gary Pinkel, the team voted for four captains on the first day of preseason camp: two offensive players, two defensive players. Odom wants more than four leaders on the team.
