In his home debut, Johnathon Johnson caught five of seven passes for 115 yards and returned a punt for a touchdown. This dynamic performance was enough to earn Johnson the SEC’s freshman of the week award.

The redshirt freshman from Memphis first drew attention in August 2015, when he dominated an early-camp scrimmage. But at the end of that scrimmage, he suffered an injury that would keep him out of action all year. He turned heads again by earning the starting role at slot receiver, ahead of Alabama transfer Chris Black. Though Black outplayed him at WVU to start the season, Johnson struck back on Saturday, as did another “OR” starter, Ray Wingo (three catches, 125 yards).
Johnson has quickly made a mark both in special teams and in the receiving corps.
