Post-Dispatch: West Virginia offense forges new identity
The Air Raid, as Mizzou could discover Saturday, has a new gear: West Virginia ran for more yards than it passed in eight of 13 games last season and produced the Big 12 rushing leader, Wendell Smallwood, a fifth-round NFL draft pick by Philadelphia. [...]
"We were as good as anybody in the country being able to big-play people in the pass game," [Dana Holgorsen] said this week. "We’ve got all those key components back. But we’ve got to be more consistent with the every-down, routine pass play. … Got to be able to run the ball. I think we’ll be able to do that."
Post-Dispatch: Mizzou needs more splashy openers
PowerMizzou: Odom's ready to defend
Barry Odom is a defensive coach, and that side of the ball will always have his heart.
He still talks about the defense as "We" whereas the offense is "They." When asked about freshman running back Damarea Crockett, Odom said how much he wanted him on defense. A few days later, he came back to that thought.
He actually meant how much he wanted Dimetrios Mason, another freshman, on defense.
"I'm still working on that, and I guess I'll be working on that forever," Odom said, "on making sure that every aspect of the program that you look at, the entire body of what we're doing. It's a little bit easier when you're focused on one side."

Hopefully they're right (this week, but not two weeks from now)!
#PAPN
We almost went 90 damn minutes yesterday. There was a lot of ground to cover, some of it important (like the fact that we've set up a GoFundMe page for helping kids affected in the Baton Rouge flood), some of it less so! And please don't think less of Godfrey just because he's made a bet that Kansas will win three games...

We have actual SEC games to react to!
And they were pretty awful!
Team Speed Kills: Volunteers survives overtime scare, 20-13
SB Nation: Tennessee beat App State in overtime thanks to its QB fumbling for a touchdown
Survival is all that really counts, and if Tennessee's takeaways from this game are that a) it's okay to try a deep ball every once in a while, and b) they are capable of winning close games, then maybe it's a growing experience. Then again, you can only attempt deep balls if your offensive line can do its job. It kinda struggled last night.
