Missouri has released its depth chart and game notes for Saturday’s Homecoming game against the Idaho Vandals.

Offense

Quarterback

  • Drew Lock (6’4, 225, Jr.) Last Week: 15-25, 253 yards, 4 TDs, 1 INT
  • Micah Wilson (6’3, 215, RSFr.) Last Week: 0—0
  • Jack Lowary (6’4, 225, So.)

If you take out the two long scores, Lock finished 13/23 for 127 yards, 2 TDs and 1 INT which would probably be considered decent against a top-tier Georgia defense.

Running back

  • Damarea Crockett (5’11, 225, So.) Last Week: 9-32 yards, 2 /3 catches — 10
  • Ish Witter (5’10, 200, Sr.) Last Week: 5-8, 1/1 catch — 8 yards
  • Larry Rountree (5’11, 215, Fr.) Last Week: 6-22

Crockett’s shoulder/arm injury is very concerning considering he just got back from a tailbone bruise. Offensive coordinator Josh Heupel tried to get Crockett involved in the pass game early, but my bigger concern is how predictable and reliant the rushing game is on Crockett’s singular talent.

And Larry Rountree is officially listed on Mizzou’s depth chart for the first time. Seems telling.

Receiving corps

X-WR:

  • J’Mon Moore (6’3, 205, Sr.) Last Week: 1 catches/3 targets — 8 yards
  • Dominic Collins (6’2, 185, Sr.) Last Week: 1/1 — 6

Moore got benched for a penalty. I’m curious how he responds since he’s a senior and doesn’t have a lot of time left.

Y-WR:

  • Emanuel Hall (6’3, 200, Jr.) Last Week: 4/5 — 141, 2 TDs
  • Nate Brown (6’3, 210, R-Jr.) Last Week: 0 — 0

Back. to. back. 63-yard. touchdowns.

Emanuel Hall looks like he could be a #1 receiver in Missouri’s offense, either now or in the near future.

Slot:

  • Johnathon Johnson (5’10, 185, So.) Last Week: 2/2 — 27,
  • Richaud Floyd (5’11, 190, So.) Last Week: 1/1 — 4 yards

Tight End:

  • Jason Reese (6’5, 250, Sr.) Last Week: 1/1 — 27 yards, 1 TD
  • Kendall Blanton (6’6, 260, Jr.) Last Week: 0/1
  • OR Albert Okwuegbunam (6’5, 260, RSFr.) Last Week: 2/4 -- 22, 1 TD

The #TightEndPassingGame is like a rollercoaster ride — one week: nothing, next week two touchdowns, next week: nothing. If only they could put the whole thing together to make consistent offense.

Props to Reese and Okwuegbunam for making the most of their limited opportunities.

Offensive line

Left Tackle:

  • Yasir Durant (6’7, 340, So.)
  • Tyler Howell (6’8, 330, Sr.)

I feel like not enough is being made of Yasir Durant replacing Tyler Howell as starting left tackle. It’s a move to a younger player, which benefits continuity for next year, but unless there’s an injury I’m not aware of, I’m still curious.

Left Guard:

  • Kevin Pendleton (6’4, 330, Jr.)
  • Adam Ploudre (6’4, 315, Sr.)

Center:

  • Trystan Castillo (6’4, 315, RSFr.)
  • Jonah Dubinski (6’2, 295, So.)

Right Guard:

  • Tre’Vour Simms (6’5, 340, So.)
  • AJ Harris (6’4, 310, RSSo.)

Right Tackle:

  • Paul Adams (6’6, 315, Jr.)
  • Samson Bailey (6’4, 295, Jr.)

Glen Elarbee’s offensive line group, which made such progress last year, clearly still has room to improve, specifically in the run game. The good news is they’re all pretty young.

Defense

Defensive line

Rush End:

  • Marcell Frazier (6’5, 265, Sr.) Last Week: 4 tackles, 0.5 TFL
  • Chris Turner (6’4, 250, Fr.) Last Week: 1 tackle, 0.5 sack

Defensive End:

  • Jordan Harold (6’2, 255, Sr.) Last Week: 2 tackles
  • Nate Anderson (6’0, 265, Jr.)
  • OR Tre Williams (6’5, 250 R-Fr.) Last Week: 3 tackles

I’ve heard Tre Williams struggled playing with discipline, and that’s why he’s only recently seeing the field, but I’m not sure why he’s held to a different standard than other starters on Mizzou’s defense. He might be the team’s most explosive pass rusher and the only guy who even remotely reminds me of Mizzou’s once proud DLineZou tradition.

Nose Tackle:

  • Markell Utsey (6’4, 305, So.) Last Week: 2 tackles
  • AJ Logan (6’2, 330, RSR.) Last Week: suspended
  • Walter Palmore (6’4, 320, Jr.) Last Week: 1 tackle
  • Unlisted: Kobie Whiteside (6’1, 300, Fr.) Last Week: 1 tackle

AJ Logan returns from his six week suspension involving an academic tutor. More depth at nose tackle should be welcome relief.

Defensive Tackle:

  • Terry Beckner Jr. (6’4, 305, Jr.) Last Week: 1 tackle, 0.5 sack
  • Rashad Brandon (6’3, 300, Jr.) Last Week: 3 tackles, 1 TFL
  • Akial Byers (6’3, 260, Fr.)

Agreed.

Linebackers

Weakside Linebacker:

  • Terez Hall (6’2, 230, Jr.) Last Week: 10 tackles, 1.5 TFLs
  • Joey Burkett (6’2, 230, Sr.)

Middle Linebacker:

  • Cale Garrett (6’3, 235, So.) Last Week: 12 tackles, 0.5 TFL, 1 INT
  • Eric Beisel (6’3, 245, Sr.) Last Week: 4 tackles

Terez Hall and Cale Garrett look like guys you can build a defense around.

Sam/Nickel defender:

  • Brandon Lee (6’2, 225, Jr.) Last Week: 5 tackles, 0.5 TFL
  • Joshua Bledsoe (6’0, 200, Fr.) Last Week: 3 tackles
  • TJ Warren (5’11, 215, RSo.)

Seems the coaching staff has decided to go with Brandon Lee as full-time starting SAM linebacker and move Joshua Bledsoe in as his backup. TJ Warren, the corner-turned-linebacker-turned-missing person, has resurfaced as a third option.

Secondary

Cornerback:

  • DeMarkus Acy (6’2, 185, So.) Last Week: 6 tackles, 1 TFL
  • Jerod Alton (5’10, 185, R-FR.) Last Week: 1 tackle
  • Unlisted: Finis Stribling (5’11, 195, Jr.) Last Week: 0—0

Goodness. It’s not a good thing when opposing teams consistently target your #1 cornerback. Despite getting trucked by Sony Michel, Acy finished the game.

Cornerback:

  • Adam Sparks (6’0, 175, Fr.) Last Week: 5 tackles
  • Logan Cheadle (5’10, 185, Sr.)

Adam Sparks got (and will continue to get) the start over Cheadle, and after some consideration, it makes sense. Testing Sparks against competition when you already know what you’re getting from Cheadle means you can find out how he handles it, and the coaches can always go back to Cheadle if they need reliability.

Safety:

  • Ronnell Perkins (6’0, 200, So.) Last Week: 5 tackles, 1 Pass Break Up, 1 Forced Fumble
  • OR Anthony Sherrils (6’0, 190, Sr.) Last Week: (did not travel — Concussion protocol)
  • Unlisted: Tavon Ross (6’0, 210, R-Jr.) Last Week: 2 tackles (ejected for targeting)

Ronnell Perkins is a decent safety when he’s able to come up and play the run and isn’t left in man coverage. He’s still young, and I think he’s got a high ceiling. Anthony Sherrils has been out the past two games due to concussion protocol.

Safety:

  • Thomas Wilson (5’10, 195, Sr.) Last Week: 7 tackles, 1 PBU
  • Kaleb Prewett (6’1, 210, Jr.) Last Week: 4 tackles
  • Unlisted: Jordan Ulmer (6’2, 195) Last Week: 0—0

The coaching staff took my advice and started Prewett at safety vs Georgia. It was a marginal improvement? Now Prewett finds himself backing up Thomas Wilson.

Special Teams

Kicker:

  • Tucker McCann (6’0, 205, So.)

Last Week: 4/4 on XPs

Punter:

  • Corey Fatony (5’11, 205, Jr.)

Last Week: 6 punts, 261 yards, 43.5 average, long of 57, 4 inside the 20

Kick Returner:

  • Larry Rountree (5’11, 215, Fr.) Last Week: 2 for 49 yards, 25 average

If Rountree needs to take more a load running the ball, Missouri’s kick return game is going to suffer because the freshman was starting to look like he was taking command of the job.

Punt Returner:

  • LOL, that didn’t happen

Long Snapper:

  • James Workman (6’0, 215, So.) Last Week: Started
  • OR Drew Wise (6’2, 325, Fr.) Last Week: 0—0

Missouri’s one bad snap wasn’t because of the snapper, the ball deflected off Alec Abeln who was in punter protection.
