Missouri has released its depth chart and game notes for Saturday’s game against the Purdue Boilermakers.
Offense

Quarterback
- Drew Lock (6’4, 225, Jr.) Last Week: 14/32 — 245 yards, 1 TD, 2 INT
- Jack Lowary (6’4, 225, So.)
- OR Micah Wilson (6’3, 215, RSFr.)
I want to emphasize a point from David Morrison’s snap count article yesterday:
Drew Lock Average Release Time: 2.66 sec.
Drew Lock When Holding for Less Then 2.5 sec.: 13-of-24, 241 yards, TD, INT
Drew Lock When Holding for More Than 2.5 sec.: 1-of-8, 4 yards, INT
Running back
- Damarea Crockett (5’11, 225, So.) Last Week: 18 rushes — 97 yards
- Ish Witter (5’10, 200, Sr.) Last Week: 12 — 72
- Larry Rountree (5’11, 215, Fr.) Last Week: 4 — 12
In place of any kind of commentary I would just like to submit Crockett’s punishing run from late in the 2nd quarter:
Missouri ended up kicking (and missing) a field goal after that.
Additionally, news broke this morning that former East St. Louis running back Nate Strong has left the team.
Receiving corps
X-WR:
- J’Mon Moore (6’3, 205, Sr.) Last Week: 3 catches/8 targets — 29 yards
- Dominic Collins (6’2, 185, Sr.) Last Week: Did not play
A couple Moore drops, but as noted yesterday:
[Lock] was, though, also victimized by five drops that would have accounted for at least 51 yards and a touchdown to Johnathon Johnson. J’Mon Moore was responsible for two drops, and Johnson, Dimetrios Mason and Jason Reese had one each.
Y-WR:
- Dimetrios Mason (6’0, 185, So.) Last Week: 4/5 — 48
- Emanuel Hall (6’3, 200, Jr.) Last Week: 3/3 — 66
Emanuel Hall had several big gains, averaging 22 yards per catch and logged one more snap than Dimetrious Mason vs South Carolina. This is pretty clearly a 1a/1b rotation for the #2 receiver position.
Slot:
- Johnathon Johnson (5’10, 185, So.) Last Week: 0/2
- Richaud Floyd (5’11, 190, So.) Last Week: 0
A big red flag here that neither of Missouri’s slot receivers recorded any stats despite logging 69 snaps between the two of them. South Carolina threw several different defensive looks at the slot and proved very effective.
Tight End:
- Jason Reese (6’5, 250, Sr.) Last Week: 2 /3 — 88, 1 TD
- Kendall Blanton (6’6, 260, Jr.) Last Week: 0/1
- OR Albert Okwuegbunam (6’5, 260, RSFr.) Last Week: 0/1
Except for the one play-action pass to Reese that resulted in Missouri’s lone touchdown, the tight ends were essentially a non-factor.
Offensive line
Left Tackle:
- Tyler Howell (6’8, 330, Sr.) Last Week: 57
- Yasir Durant (6’7, 340, So.) Last Week: 12
Yasir Durant was getting pretty significant rotation behind Howell before going down with an injury.
Left Guard:
- Kevin Pendleton (6’4, 330, Jr.) Last Week: 59
- Adam Ploudre (6’4, 315, Sr.) Last Week: 16
To my eyes it appeared that Pendleton went out with an injury briefly on the last drive before half-time and backup Ploudre was in for him. That drive stalled in the red zone after Crockett tried to run it up the middle twice for four yards.
Center:
- Trystan Castillo (6’4, 315, RSFr.) Last Week: 69
- Jonah Dubinski (6’2, 295, So.) Last Week: 0
Right Guard:
- Tre’Vour Simms (6’5, 340, So.) Last Week: 63
- AJ Harris (6’4, 310, So.) Last Week: 0
Iron-men Castillo and Simms both played all of the available snaps for their positions.
Right Tackle:
- Paul Adams (6’6, 315, Jr.) Last Week: 69
- Samson Bailey (6’4, 295, Jr.) Last Week: 0
Adams was tied for most snaps with Castillo.
Defense

Defensive line
Rush End:
- Marcell Frazier (6’5, 265, Sr.) Last Week: 40 snaps: 1 tackle, 1 QB hurry
- Chris Turner (6’4, 250, Fr.) Last Week: 13 snaps: 0 stats
Defensive End:
- Jordan Harold (6’2, 255, Sr.) Last Week: 43 snaps: 6 tackles, 1 sack,
- Nate Anderson (6’0, 265, Jr.) Last Week: 4 snaps: 0 stats
I wish #16 on defense for MU wasn't avoidin the local media so I could ask him y he was patty caking with #81 on SC instead of tackling him
— Tramel Raggs (@Raggs_No_Riches) September 10, 2017
Marcell Frazier did break his media silence to admit he needed to play better, specifically on plays like this:
Nose Tackle:
- Markell Utsey (6’4, 305, So.) Last Week: 26 snaps: 0 stats
- Walter Palmore (6’4, 320, Jr.) Last Week: 23 snaps: 1 tackle, 1 TFL
- Kobie Whiteside (6’1, 300, Fr.) Last Week: 13 snaps: 0 stats
Defensive Tackle:
- Terry Beckner Jr. (6’4, 305, Jr.) Last Week: 45 snaps: 3 tackles, 1 QBH
- Rashad Brandon (6’3, 300, Jr.) Last Week: 26 snaps: 0 stats
Missouri’s defensive line needs to create havoc to help the Tigers win games.
Linebackers
Weakside Linebacker:
- Terez Hall (6’2, 230, Jr.) Last Week: 53 snaps: 6 tackles, 2 TFLs
- OR Joey Burkett (6’2, 230, Sr.) Last Week: 15 snaps: 0 stats
Middle Linebacker:
- Cale Garrett (6’3, 235, So.) Last Week: 59 snaps: 10 tackles
- OR Eric Beisel (6’3, 245, Sr.) Last Week: 9 snaps: 2 tackles
Eric Beisel is the captain. Cale Garrett is the starter.
Sam/Nickel defender:
- Kaleb Prewett (6’1, 210, Jr.) Last Week: 52 snaps: 7 tackles, 1 pass break up
- OR Brandon Lee (6’2, 225, Jr.) Last Week: 14 snaps: 1 tackle, 1 QBH
This much is clear: Missouri’s base defense is the nickel, and Missouri’s third linebacker is Kaleb Prewett.
Secondary
Cornerback:
- DeMarkus Acy (6’2, 185, So.) Last Week: 68 snaps:
- Finis Stribling (5’11, 195, Jr.) Last Week: 0 snaps
Cornerback:
- Logan Cheadle (5’10, 185, Sr.) Last Week: 68 snaps:
- Adam Sparks (6’0, 175, Fr.) Last Week:
- OR Anthony Hines (6’1, 200, Sr.) Last Week:
Secondary coach and defensive co-coordinator Ryan Walters clearly only trusts DeMarkus Acy and Logan Cheadle to play corner, and while Cheadle was again solid in coverage, Acy has had several costly penalties on third down that extended drives.
Safety:
- Anthony Sherrils (6’0, 190, Sr.) Last Week: 47 snaps: 7 tackles
- Ronnell Perkins (6’0, 200, So.) Last Week: 21 snaps: 1 tackle
I thought Anthony Sherrils looked okay, and I believe Ronnell Perkins went down with an injury at one point during the game after missing week 1 due to a hamstring injury.
Safety:
- Jordan Ulmer (6’2, 195, Fr.) Last Week: 7 snaps: 0 stats
- Tyree Gillespie (6’0, 215, Fr.) Last Week: 0 snaps
- Thomas Wilson (5’10, 195, Sr.) Last Week: 61 snaps: 5 tackles, 1 QBH
- Cam Hilton (6’0, 185, Jr.) Last Week: SUSPENDED FOR FIRST HALF, 0 snaps in game
After much was made of Jordan Ulmer being the first true freshman to start a Missouri game since defensive end Justin Smith, he was relegated to backup status and Thomas Wilson — who wasn’t even on the depth chart last week — registered the vast majority of the snaps, prompting David Morrison to quip: “Speaking of depth chart lies”. Well ... guess who’s once again unlisted on the depth chart: the guy who played most of last week and probably will again on Saturday.
Cam Hilton was eligible to play in the second half but neither he nor Tyree Gillespie saw the field so... yeah.
Special Teams
Kicker:
- Tucker McCann (6’0, 205, So.)
Last Week: 1/1 XP, 2 /3 FG — 22 yds, 43 yds, (25 yd blocked), 97 yds kickoff returned for TD
Punter:
- Corey Fatony (5’11, 205, Jr.)
Last Week: 4 punts for 215 yds, 53.8 average, long of 70 yards,
Kick Returner:
- Dimetrios Mason (6’0, 185, So.) Last Week: 2 returns for 47 yards
Punt Returner:
- Johnathon Johnson Last Week: 1 for 4 yards
Mizzou needs to find someone other than Johnson they trust to return punts.
