Joe Lunardi has a cruel side. Missouri didn’t fall in his latest Bracketology mock-up — the Tigers are still 10-seeds after the loss to Texas A&M, just as they were at the end of last week. But instead of being paired with Miami (and potentially Kansas), he drew up a 1980s nightmare bracket this time around.
Lunardi still has eight SEC teams in the field.
In this version, Missouri plays No. 7 seed Rhode Island (which beat Mizzou, 87-80, in the first round in 1988) with the winner likely taking on No. 2 seed Xavier (which beat Mizzou, 70-69, in the first round in 1987). This passive aggression will not stand, Joe.
(In Jerry Palm’s latest at CBS, Mizzou is paired with No. 7 Miami and No. 2 WVU. Okay, fine, give me URI and Xavier.)
A 10-seed is obviously not a tourney guarantee, however. The KC Star takes a look at where Mizzou needs to improve to stay on the right side of the in-or-out line.
The ugly: Foul trouble. You can make a case for this on both ends of the court, but Missouri has had plenty of fouls on the defensive end that have come back to bite them. While Tilmon has struggled with foul trouble the entire season, Porter has made some bad decisions that led to the opposing team shooting free throws or getting an extra possession. Cutting down on the bad fouls will keep Tilmon and Porter on the floor more and allow Missouri to run more offense through the paint.

- PerfectGame.org ranked 2018’s top 50 NCAA baseball seniors. It’s subscriber-only, but spoiler: Mizzou’s got three in the top 35.
With the college baseball season just 25 days away, the preseason accolades keep rolling in for Mizzou Baseball as three Tigers were named to PerfectGame.org’s Top 50 College Seniors List, announced Monday (Jan. 22). Among the three Tigers listed, two rank in the national top four as RS junior Bryce Montes De Oca (Lawrence, Kan.) and senior C Brett Bond (St. Louis, Mo.) check in at No. 2 and No. 4, respectively. Senior OF Trey Harris (Powder Springs, Ga.) ranks No. 32 on the list.
Mizzou and Texas A&M are the only teams with two players ranked in the top 10 while the Tigers are the only team in the nation with three players ranked in the top 50. Rankings are based on the players’ professional potential relative to the MLB Draft.
