We need a Mizzou palate cleanser

This week was stupid.

This was a particularly stupid week for Mizzou. Ehren Earleywine got himself fired, Kaleb Prewett and Terrence Phillips got suspended, the basketball team has lost two games in a row for the first time all year, the women’s team lost before they could reach the top 10, etc. Not particularly fun.

It is time, then, for a palate cleanser. Here are 10 Mizzou things that make me happy as we wait for the present tense to get in a better mood.

1. Football players buying books

This was fun.

2. Torrence Watson is coming soon

3. We’ve got another season and a half of Sophie Cunningham

Just saying.

(You read Dave Matter’s Sophie profile last week, right?)

4. Jarvis Ware: also coming soon

This Mizzou cornerback signee gets the Bud Elliott Seal of Approval.

5. Drew Lock: coming back

6. The Reign of Sikkema begins soon

Preseason All-American T.J. Sikkema was 8-2 with a 2.72 ERA, four saves, and 81 strikeouts as a freshman last year. He’s back, and so is flame-throwing senior Bryce Montes de Oca, who began to get his control under, uh, control for a bit last year. Baseball season could be fascinating.

Oh yeah, and new turf.

7. GRIT!

You read Jarrett Sutton’s story yesterday, I hope, sandwiched between the negative headlines. If not, do it. If so, do it again. Laurence Bowers says so.

8. Speaking of the Party Starter...

9. And while we’re at it...

...watch Mizzou-Memphis 2009.

10. Fine, since we’re reminiscing...
