It’s profile SZN, y’all
Yes, we know there’s still more than half of a football season to go. But with a rough loss still festering from the weekend, let’s turn our attention to basketball for the moment.
The Columbia Tribune published the third part of their in-depth look at coach Cuonzo Martin and how he’s getting ready for the coming season of Mizzou Hoops. In it, Martin said he expects excellence from his team, and thinks fans are expecting the same.
Martin understands the Missouri fanbase appreciates good basketball, it’s part of the reason things exploded like they did last season.
“A lot of credit goes to Norm Stewart and what he built here and then you have good coaches who came after Norm,” Martin said. “The fanbase here expects good basketball.”
You can start the three-part series here if you want. Basketball season is almost here. Can you feel it?
Report cards are in!
Back to football: Mitchell Forde’s grade card was filed Sunday morning, and Forde was not especially kind to the team, with the notable exception of the running backs.
The one thing Missouri had going for it all game against South Carolina was its rushing attack... After a slow start to the season, the trio looked Saturday has suddenly become the strength of Missouri’s offense.
He’s not wrong. Drew Lock came into the year with substantial Heisman momentum, and not halfway through the season, he’s been supplanted by Rountree, Crockett and Badie as the offensive highlights.

- Here’s a real upbeat story for you: A Maryland booster who blamed the death of a college football player on the player himself — despite the results of an independent investigation! - was kicked off his planned flight with the team. The players literally complained about him until the school told him he was grounded. Who knows what this means about his status with the university moving forward, but it’s nice to see some sort of justice being done against rich folk who think money entitles them to say whatever they want. (Author’s Note: Sorry, I got a little heated while reading this story.)
- The winningest coach in college football history died this weekend. He coached at the Division III level and had a really unique way of getting his teams ready to play.
But he drew as much national attention to a school with fewer than 2,000 students with his laid-back approaches to the sport. His policy was to not cut any players from the roster and guide nonstrenuous practices that never exceeded 90 minutes.
It’s a fascinating story that’s worth your time.
- And here are the latest bowl projections for Missouri:
CBS Sports: Belk Bowl vs. NC State
ESPN: Belk Bowl vs. Duke; Liberty Bowl vs. Iowa State
SB Nation: Texas Bowl vs. Texas Tech
SDS: Music City Bowl vs. Virginia
Surprisingly when I went to look up 247’s bowl projections, Missouri wasn’t included. I still find it hard to believe Missouri won’t make any bowl game, but it’s understandable why they’ve got their fair share of unbelievers.
