Mizzou wrestling extends unbeaten streak in epic fashion

Here are today’s Mizzou Links.

1. What. A. Finish.

Trailing Virginia 21-17 into the final match of the night at its dual in Kansas City, Missouri needed a pin by Daniel Lewis to continue its dual unbeaten streak.

What happened?

Just watch:

That pin gave Mizzou wrestling a 23-21 victory over Virginia, moving them to 6-0 on the season in process. The dual, which took place at Park Hill High School in Kansas City, looked to have an incredible atmosphere and the finish was the cherry on top.

Here’s another video of the finish:

2. Braggin’ Rights starts TODAY.

Yes, the men’s hoops game isn’t until Saturday, but the women’s basketball team kicks off the Braggin’ Rights weekend with a game in Champaign on Friday night.

The Missouri women are coming off a win over Texas State earlier this week, which was much needed after a rough 74-61 loss to South Dakota. A year ago, Missouri ended an eight-game losing streak to Illinois — so let’s turn this into a two-game winning streak against the Illini.

3. Another sad turn in Dorial Green-Beckham’s struggles.

The uber-talented former Missouri receiver was arrested on Wednesday in Springfield after he was reportedly caught with a pound of marijuana.

Every time Green-Beckham’s name pops up in the news — and over the last few years, it’s almost exclusively just for negative reasons — I think back to the first feature story I wrote about him before his senior year in high school.

A line from his adopted father really stands out as almost haunting to me now:

John Beckham has seen foster children come and go from his household over the years. He said of those children, it’s a 50-50 chance whether they’ll succeed in life, or end up back in the same situations that first brought them to the house with the white-piped fence, the first driveway past the big, white farmhouse.

Dorial’s oldest brother, Vincent, was sentenced to five years in prison on Tuesday.

”I really don’t know (what for), to be honest,” John Beckham says sadly.

Green-Beckham was so close to ending up on the good side of that 50-50 statistic. Hopefully, there’s still time for him.
