There is a common theme among Missouri’s defensive signees in 2018: they can hit. The Tigers’ latest commitment is no different.
On Monday, following visits to both Mizzou and Kansas, Frisco (Tex.) linebacker Nicholas Bolton announced his commitment to the Tigers. On Wednesday morning, he officially signed.
Bolton is listed at 5’11, 228 pounds and boasts a mid-three-star rating from the 247Sports Composite. He listed offers from not only Kansas but also Washington, Boston College, Colorado, and Mississippi State, and he was committed to UW until mid-October.
One thing Bolton’s highlight video makes certain: if he gets his hand on you, you fly backwards. Bolton is a solid, strong prospect whose rating was likely held back at least a little bit by a lack of size. He is a nice late pickup.
Bolton joins a crowded field of 2018 linebackers. Missouri has already signed Chad Bailey and Cameron Wilkins, each from Texas, plus Charlotte linebacker Gerald Nathan Jr. Fellow commit Jatorian Hansford, expected to sign with Mizzou on Wednesday, could end up at either end or outside linebacker.
The reason for this recruiting surge at LB is pretty obvious: Mizzou will need quite a few after 2018. Junior-to-be Cale Garrett and sophomores Aubrey Miller Jr. and Grant Jones are the only two Tiger linebackers scheduled to return for 2019; starters Terez Hall and Brandon Lee and backups Grant Jones and Roderick Winters are all seniors. At least a couple of these signees will be expected to contribute pretty quickly, and Bolton will have a chance to do so.
WELCOME (officially), NICK.
