ESPN’s preseason Football Power Index projections are out. They use similar criteria to my S&P+ projections, and a lot of the results are pretty similar between the two.
SEC S&P+ and FPI projections
Team | S&P+ rk | FPI rk | FPI proj wins |
---|---|---|---|
Team | S&P+ rk | FPI rk | FPI proj wins |
Alabama | 2 | 2 | 10.8 |
Auburn | 5 | 7 | 9.1 |
Georgia | 6 | 3 | 10.9 |
Mississippi State | 14 | 16 | 8.4 |
LSU | 16 | 26 | 6.2 |
Texas A&M | 24 | 19 | 7.4 |
Ole Miss | 25 | 45 | 6.3 |
Missouri | 30 | 29 | 7.3 |
Florida | 32 | 21 | 8.1 |
South Carolina | 35 | 28 | 7.2 |
Arkansas | 52 | 54 | 5.9 |
Kentucky | 64 | 56 | 5.4 |
Vanderbilt | 75 | 76 | 3.9 |
Tennessee | 79 | 53 | 5.8 |
The big differences between the two ratings are for Tennessee (26 spots higher in FPI) and Florida (11 spots higher in FPI), which suggests that their projections lean more heavily on recruiting rankings than mine. Then again, S&P+ likes LSU (by 10 spots) and Ole Miss (by 20) more, so ... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Either way, Mizzou’s a projected top-30 team with a chance at a pretty fun season.

More Links:
- Mizzou made the cut for Courtney Ramey’s top ... TEN? We’re only down to 10 here???
- Mizzou hosted 3-star Mississippi QB KJ Jefferson recently, and he liked what Derek Dooley was selling.
- Alabama’s up next for Mizzou Baseball, and because the weather’s going to stink ... AGAIN ... the schedule’s been altered. The Friday, Saturday, and Sunday games will all begin at 1 p.m. CT. This weather has beaten me down.
- While Alabama comes up here for baseball, Mizzou’s going down to Tuscaloosa for NCAA Regionals on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers have big goals.

- Hayden Buckley’s been really, really good on the links this year. And now he’s apparently out here making hole-in-ones on par 4s...
Congrats to senior @hbuckley13, who made a hole-in-one today in qualifying on the 8th hole at @OldHawthorne! Key note: #8 is a par-4, 284 yards. Hayden used a 3-wood! #ace #albatross #MizzouMade pic.twitter.com/2PE7L1U0Y7
