Terry Beckner Jr.’s on the Bednarik watch list, and Mark Stoops was impressed with Mizzou

And injury reports are coming one day! Here are today’s Mizzou Links.

1. Watch Lists Are Dumb ... Unless They Involve Mizzou Players, Vol. MLXVII: Terry Beckner Jr. and Drew Lock are on some big-time watch lists

The Bednarik and Maxwell watch lists, to be exact.

Mizzou Football senior standouts DL Terry Beckner, Jr. (East St. Louis, Ill.) and QB Drew Lock (Lee’s Summit, Mo.) have each earned a spot on prestigious college football award watch lists, announced Monday by the Maxwell Football Club. Beckner landed on the watch list for the Bednarik Award, given annually to the top defender in college football. Lock is on the watch list for the Maxwell Award, which is given annually to the top offensive player in college football.

2. Injury reports are coming! Injury reports are coming! Eventually!

So says SEC commish Greg Sankey.

The commissioner does see some potential change coming in one topical area. He said they discussed the idea of injury reports at the SEC Spring Meetings in Destin and something in that spirit is likely on the way.

The Supreme Court ruling that cleared the way for legalized sports gambling is no doubt the catalyst. The dynamics of the concept is different from the circumstances surrounding the weekly public reports already used by the NFL.

”FERPA and HIPAA requirements, academic suspensions, other team or athletics’ department imposed suspensions and NCAA eligibility issues make something more like an availability report relevant for discussion,” Sankey said Monday. “I do not believe this has to happen before the 2018 season, either on the part of this conference or the national level.”

3. UK’s Mark Stoops says Mizzou’s late-2017 surge was damn impressive.

He’s right, of course.

“What (Odom) went through last year, I went through in year three,” said Stoops, coming off two bowl seasons after opening with three straight losing campaigns. “People, we all want results, but we all know it’s very difficult to build the program you’re looking for. When that pressure’s on and it’s time to get ready to break, his team responded.”

4. “It’s a leap of faith not ever having visited there.”

Chris Shearin talked to PowerMizzou about his Mizzou commitment.

5. August 7 is the commitment date for Marcus Washington.

Mizzou appears to be in decent shape for the biggest name on its 2019 recruiting board. We’ll see.
