Gameday POLLS! What are you expecting from Mizzou’s offense against UT Martin?

Drew Lock and the offense should have plenty of room to run today. How will they fare?

NCAA Football: Missouri at Kentucky Mark Zerof-USA TODAY Sports

The Mizzou offense is coming off a great second half in 2017, and that high-quality play should be back in full effect against UT Martin. With Drew Lock entering his senior season, offensive weapons like Albert Okwuegbunam and Emmanuel Hall getting another year under their belt, and solid offensive line group, Mizzou’s offense should be a potent one, especially against this Ohio Valley Conference Week One opponent.

With the addition of Derek Dooley, expect the Tiger’s passing game to be more consistent and efficient. Dooley was the Miami Dolphins’ tight ends coach (2005-06) and the Dallas Cowboys’ wide receivers coach (2013-17), so he has plenty of knowledge on what works well in a pro-style offense. He enjoys the short passing aspect of the pro-style offense, which I think will benefit Lock and the offense. By attempting and completing more short passes, it’ll get Lock in a rhythm and increase his confidence, allow for his athletic receivers and backs to have run after the catch opportunities, and keep defenses honest by opening up play action.

Don’t be surprised if the Tigers get up early in the game through the air using Drew Lock in Dooley’s new system with all of his weapons. This will get both Dooley and Lock comfortable with one another, while also allowing Lock to get in crucial game reps with his skill position players. I also expect to see a few new wrinkles. I’m not saying Dooley is going to show all of his cards, but if the Tigers get up early in the first half, expect to see Dooley experiment with Lock a bit in the passing game.

But we want to hear from you! How you think the #Mizzou offense will stack up against UT Martin.
