We are 43 days away from Mizzou Basketball season. We have a 1st round draft pick QB in his senior season. Mizzou fans know Drew Lock was a standout basketball player in high school but picked football due to better chances of a professional career in football.
The question is, once he has exhausted his football eligibility, does he join the Tigers on the hardwood? Mizzou Basketball has 18 players on the roster, 2 are sitting out as transfers and 5 are walk-ons, and with the retirement of Cullen Van Leer, we could use some more guard depth as the season progresses.
Drew Lock would come in and give some depth to the guards on this team, he has mentioned he misses the trash talk side of basketball, he has the skills, but would be bother with basketball as he would be preparing to potentially be the top pick in next years NFL Draft.
Depth would change to this in a natural 1-5 position order
1: Geist, Pinson, Yerkes/Ford (W)
2: Watson, Pickett, Guess, Lock? Suggs(W)
3: Santos, M. Smith, Lock?
4: Porter, Puryear, Braun (W)
5: Tilmon, Nikko
Sitting Out: Mark Smith, Dru Smith, Van Leer, Adam Wolf?
More break down just scholarship players
Guards: Geist, Pinson, Watson, Pickett, Guess, Santos
Bigs: Puryear, Porter, Smith, Nikko, Tilmon
That means 6 guards with 4 of them being freshmen. Santos is a combo guard/wing/forward.
Lock would add major depth and senior leadership even though he has not been playing basketball competitively for 4 years.
It is not going to happen, but as a Mizzou fan you can hope. Lock joining the team for his senior year would make for an awesome atmosphere and help him add to his legacy as a Mizzou sports star.
