Final: FINAL: Missouri 70, Morehead State 52
The Tigers (4-1) were atrocious from long range but dominated the battle on the boards as they handed the Eagles (4-1) their first loss of the season.
3:41 2H: Xavier Pinson took a hard fall before the timeout but looks to be alright as he’s back in the game after a Morehead State free throw.
7:29 2H: Morehead State is starting to creep back in this one, as Missouri leads by just eight at the under-8 timeout. Sloppy game around for both teams, who each have 16 turnovers.
11:36 2H: Almost at the midway point of the second half and Missouri’s defense has put the clamps on Morehead State. The Eagles have just nine points so far this half and trail the Tigers by 13, so it looks like Missouri will most likely extend its streak of allowing no more than 63 points this season.
14:41 2H: Missouri is beginning to pull away now. The Tigers have opened up a 12-point lead just over five minutes into the half on strong shooting by Mark and Dru Smith.
Halftime: Missouri 36, Morehead State 29
A 9-0 run in the last 1:45 gave the Tigers a seven-point lead heading into halftime. But, Missouri has been putrid from 3-point range, missing its last 12 after Mark Smith nailed the team’s first two. The Tigers’ saving grace right now might be their 22-14 rebound advantage (11-2 on the offensive boards).
2:37 1H: The Tigers’ offense is really struggling right now. Jeremiah Tilmon hasn’t figured out the low-block double team and is sitting with two fouls. Mark Smith is also on the bench with two fouls and hasn’t been able to add on to his team-leading eight points.
Just not a great showing from the offense since leading 16-6 at the 12:21 mark.
7:44 1H: This one’s gotten a lot closer than it needs to be. Morehead State just took a 20-19 lead on a 3-pointer by Djimon Henson.
11:22 1H: Missouri’s offense has slowed down the last five minutes but, per usual, the defense is holding strong. We’re almost halfway through the first half and Morehead State still hasn’t broken the double-digit scoring mark.
16:06 1H: Morehead State calls a timeout with Missouri ahead 12-3. Mark Smith drilled two 3s in the first 45 seconds, and Tray Jackson and Jeremiah Tilmon have both added dunks in this early run.
The Missouri Tigers host the Morehead State Eagles on Wednesday with an eye on handing the visiting team its first loss of the season.
Morehead State brings as much experience in its starting lineup as any team Missouri has played this season, but the Tigers have the height advantage at every position over the Eagles. Missouri will also look to stay undefeated at home.
