1. A great start gave way to a disaster of a finish in Missouri’s loss to Arkansas.
First, let’s remember the good times. The game was young, we had some pep in our step. The world was our oyster, dammit!
Under 12 timeout and Mizzou leads Arkansas 14-2. Razorbacks shooting 1 of 12 with three turnovers.

TV TIMEOUT: #Mizzou 14, Arkansas 2, 11:59 left first half. Didn't see this coming.

<SMASH CUT to Post-Apocalyptic Wasteland, a group of survivors stagger toward the camera, clothes in tatters, looking more dead than alive>
Back to back turnovers lead to five Arkansas points. Hogs suddenly up 11 with 2:19 to play. Timeout Missouri.

After a 17-4 start, #Mizzou has been outscored 66-42. My goodness. A good eight minutes followed by a pretty bad night to be honest.
— Gabe DeArmond (@GabeDeArmond) January 24, 2019
Joe with another 3 off another Mizzou turnover puts Hogs in front 70-59. Mizzou TO count up to 23.

Yes, what was at one point a 17-4 lead turned into a 72-60 loss to Arkansas on Wednesday night in Fayetteville. Missouri trailed by one point with 3:57 remaining — and was outscored 12-1 over the rest of the game, resulting in that 12 point loss.
And, yes, you also may have guessed that turnovers played a huge role in that outcome.
Arkansas turned Missouri over 23 times, scoring 27 points off said turnovers. Mark Smith was the lone bright spot for Missouri, scoring 22 points in 37 minutes, but he was the only Tiger to score in double-figures as they fell to 1-4 in the conference and 10-7 overall.
At least things can’t get worse, right?
Mark Smith is down and in some pain. Now helped off by two teammates.
— Dave Matter (@Dave_Matter) January 24, 2019
Oh God, no. Smith injured his left leg — looked like he turned his ankle badly — but as of press time, there wasn’t an update on the outlook for the injury.

3. More Senior Bowl, Drew Lock news and notes
We really could just lead each links article this week with Drew Lock updates from Mobile, Ala., but for the sake of the sanity of those readers who claim we don’t cover other sports, I’ll just compile the daily stories about Lock — and other potential first-round quarterbacks — here.
- Did you know that Drew Lock used to play basketball? Pete Thamel of Yahoo! Sports does, and he says that’s the reason why scouts are so enamored with him. In all seriousness, there are some good notes in this story, such as what happened when Wichita State came to recruit Lock for hoops.
- Will Grier, a projected second-day pick, is not lacking in confidence. The former West Virginia quarterback tells Terez Paylor of Yahoo! Sports that he’s “the best quarterback in the draft.” (NARRATOR: He’s not.)
- Look who made the trip to Mobile to watch Lock, too:
Here in Mobile, AL to watch this Mizzou Tiger one more time in his Mizzou helmet. Very proud of the way Drew has respresented himself and this program so far this week! pic.twitter.com/Av9YXyMnVK

- ESPN.com wrote about the biggest concern for every team in its way-too-early Top 25 for 2019, and listed “Defensive coaching changes” as the biggest concern for Missouri. Huh. I think Missouri can survive the loss of outside linebackers coach Brian Odom, don’t you?
- I missed this on Wednesday, but NFLDraftBlitz.com spoke with Rashad Brandon at the Tropical Bowl in a little Q&A.
- My word, Grant Williams. Talk about efficient.
FINAL: No. 1 Tennessee 88, Vanderbilt 83.

Grant Williams took 15 shots, made 10 and finished with 43 points and 8 rebounds. He was 23-of-23 from the free throw line.
The Vols are 17-1.
