NCAA Basketball: SEC Conference Tournament-Auburn vs Missouri Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

Dive Cuts returns with Sam Snelling and Matthew Harris a little early this week because.... IT’S GAME WEEK, Y’ALL! College Basketball is officially back, so there are real games to talk about and preview. Get excited! Sure, Mizzou does not start the season with a world-beater (sorry, Incarnate Word), but games 2 and 3 should be pretty good tests for Mizzou.

Let’s dive in.

Episode Breakdown:

0:15 – 9:37: Hello and Welcome Back to Dive Cuts! It’s GAME WEEK! Sam found it increasingly difficult and annoying to try to analyze an exhibition matchup against Central Missouri on Friday when he couldn’t actually see what was happening. But the past is the past and we’ve got real games now to focus on and preview! First up for Mizzou is Incarnate Word, and there’s not a whole lot to look at. Their offensive and defensive efficiency numbers are... not great. Mizzou should handle this team, which gives HCCM and Co. the ability to tweak some things on the fly against a live opponent. Sam and Matt talk about what they’ll be watching for during this game and give a score prediction.

9:38 – 26:57: Game number 2 of the week provides a little bit more intrigue as the Tigers face the Northern Kentucky Norseman, who are a pretty good mid-major team (132 in KP) that made the NCAA tournament last year after winning the Horizon League. Our two hosts discuss what they think of this matchup, and areas in which they could see Northern Kentucky causing Missouri some issues, and finally give another score prediction.

26:58 – 35:59: Ideally, Mizzou is 2-0 after this week before they hit the Road to what is likely a top-30 team in Xavier, which should be a big early test for the Tigers. Matt has visited the Cintas Center on several occasions, and talks about its arena set-up and propensity of its patrons to drink up the high ABV IPAs they’ve been serving for years. It should be quite the atmosphere for the Tigers, and is an excellent opportunity to nail down a Quad-1 win early on that could come handy come March.

36:00 – END: Final thoughts! Enjoy week one everyone, and Dive Cuts will return next week, probably early as to not disrupt Nate’s football pod. Complaints, comments and concerns about Dive Cuts should to be directed to our lovely producer, Mitch! (@Mhill_) so please reach out to have all your podcasting needs addressed. Also reach out to Matt and stroke his ego, please. Lord knows he needs it.
