You already knew Sophie Cunningham was the GOAT. Whether or not she could will another win against the 5th ranked team in the country on a night when her Tigers were playing their third game in three nights wasn’t ever likely to happen.
Mizzou fought for long stretches but looked out of gas at the end of the first half and in the second half as the Bulldogs extended their lead to as many as 16 in the 3rd quarter. The Tigers fought their way back to a five point deficit but a quick burst from State, largely fueled by All American Teaira McCowan. McCowan was unstoppable as she pumped in 27 points and 16 rebounds. In the end it was too much.
But it wasn’t due to a lack of effort from Sophie, who walked off the floor after committing her fifth foul with 33 points, three rebounds and just one turnover in 37 minutes. She also walked off the court as the all time scoring leader in Mizzou women's history.

For 34 years Joni Davis held the record for most points scored with 2,126, and now she’s in second to Cunningham who’ll no doubt continue to build upon her 2,157 points in the NCAA tournament.
Congrats to the women and to Sophie on a terrific regular season and SEC tournament.
