It’s been quite the year for both Mizzou diamond sports, and yesterday was another good day for both programs.
Mizzou Baseball found themselves in need of a win in Knoxville, and they got it.

Sophomore Catcher Chad McDaniel broke the game open in the 6th inning with a 3-run home run to put Mizzou up 4-0. It was all the Tigers needed to hold off the 23rd ranked Vols in a long rain-delayed game. The rubber match is today at 1pm.
Meanwhile, Softball takes the field looking to sweep the No 16 Gamecocks
They’re looking for the sweep because they got another walk off win, this time in extra innings.

Friday it was Kolby Romaine’s walk-off single, yesterday is was Brooke Wilmes hitting a dinger in the bottom of the eight inning to provide the theatrics. It was quite a finish on a day when it looked early like Mizzou might lose the game, but they battled back from a 6-3 deficit in the fourth inning to tie the game in the 5th. This team has really shown a lot of resiliency during the year and they’re finishing strong.
Mizzou Basketball hosted a 2021 post player named Brian Mathews.
What a great day! My unofficial visit to @Mizzou was amazing! I’d like to thank the faculty and especially @CuonzoMartin and @8mileCorn for having me today! @DePaulPrepMBB @DePaulPrepAD @srchoops @mikeclarkpreps @arogersgball @scottybscout @2BMathews @bobrien1099 #Blessed pic.twitter.com/6BkzxfCLh3

Mathews is a 6’9 post player who is not currently rated, but the rankings in the 2021 classes are usually pretty short. We don’t have a ton of information on him right now but he played a fair amount on a good Chicago area team in DePaul Prep. I’m honestly not sure how serious the recruitment is right now and this was an unofficial visit, but Mizzou at least has made the effort to get Mathews down and on campus so there must be some interest.
Meanwhile in other Men’s Hoops recruiting stuff, Matt Harris went to a Grassroots Basketball event in Fort Wayne, Indiana and caught up with 2020 Mizzou offers Ryan Kalkbrenner and John Hugley.

He’ll have a full notebook for us in the coming days but I got a sneak preview and I really appreciate the introspection Matt got out of Kalkbrenner. He seems to be very in touch with his ability and what he’s trying to accomplish.
Coincidentally Fort Wayne is the home of Jordan Geist, and so a few good sources provided Matt with an excellent lunch choice while he was there. If he doesn’t tell you about it in the Notebook I’m going to start to doubt this site’s Food Blog bonafides.
