Missouri-South Carolina football: Live updates, score, analysis
Final: Missouri 34, South Carolina 14
Big time win for Missouri to start SEC play. Barry Odom and Co. get the Gamecock-sized monkey off their backs and now await a visit from Troy in two weeks.
9:17 Q4: Tucker McCann puts another one through the uprights, this one from 25 yards out. Missouri is up by 20 now, and the Tigers now sit just over nine minutes away from picking up a W.
4:55 Q3: So takeaways = victory, right? Akial Byers forces another turnover, this time a fumble by Rico Dowdle. Missouri takes over at the 34, leading 31-14.
5:43 Q3: Ronnell Perkins intercepts a Ryan Hilinski pass in the end zone and takes it to the house. This is the third straight game that Missouri records a pick-six.
10:50 Q3: Kelly Bryant hits Tyler Badie on the screen pass, and a giant block by Tre’Vour Wallace-Simms helps Badie scamper into the end zone. Tigers are back up by 10 now. They lead 24-14.
14:49 Q3: Bryan Edwards catches a screen pass and takes it all the way to the end zone to cut the lead to three. Edwards was originally ruled out of bounds at the 1-yard line, but the referees changed the ruling after a review.
Halftime: Missouri 17, South Carolina 7
Very ugly first half but the Tigers still end it with a 10-point lead. Defense is shutting the Gamecocks down. Also, Yasir Durant has yet to see the field today, even though his coaches said he’d play.
4:06 Q2: Johnathon Johnson sets a nice block for Albert Okwuegbunam, and Kelly Bryant finds him wide open for a touchdown. Missouri takes a 17-7 lead.
13:22 Q2: Kelly Bryant overthrows Jonathan Nance on what should’ve been an easy first down, and Missouri settled for a field goal. Tucker McCann’s kick was good and it puts Missouri ahead by 10 early in the second quarter.
1:19 Q1: After Tyler Badie fumbled and South Carolina took over at the 23, Joshuah Bledsoe and Tyree Gillespie both record tackles for a loss. The Gamecocks went for a field goal, but the 50-yard try was wide right.
8:31 Q1: South Carolina quarterback Ryan Hilinski threw a pass, had it tipped back to him, caught it, then dropped it in what was ruled a backward pass. Cale Garrett recovered the ball in the end zone and Missouri is credited with a touchdown. Tigers lead 7-0.
8:52 Q1: Missouri takes the ball all the way to the 1 but can’t get into the end zone. South Carolina takes over after a turnover on downs.
Pregame notes
Yasir Durant is in pads and is going through warmups. He left last week’s game with a neck injury but seems good to go today.
