Coach Drinkwitz discusses traveling to LSU, covid in the locker room, and who’s starting at QB

COLUMBIA, Mo- On Tuesday, the University of Missouri’s Head Football Coach, Eli Drinkwitz addressed the press via zoom call.

Drinkwitz kept his opening remarks short and sweet this morning. He made it clear that the past two weeks were behind him and his team, and that their current focus is on the task at hand— beating the LSU Tigers.

“A new week means new opportunity”, Drinkwitz explained. He partially blames himself for the lack of execution that’s been put out on the field through the first two games. Coach said that he admires the effort that’s been put forth by the players.

Heading into week number three of the season and a starting quarterback has finally been named before the opening snap. Coach was pleased to inform the press that Connor Bazelak will get the call to start against LSU. Though he didn’t throw any touchdowns in week two’s matchup against the Tennessee Volunteers, Bazelak still threw for over 200 yards with just over a 60% completion rate, despite not even starting.

“There will still be plays for Shawn (Robinson)”, Drinkwitz mentioned. “Just because we’re going with Connor doesn’t mean we’re not going to use Shawn. He’s still a quarterback on our football team”.

Regarding the covid-19 situation; two players rejoined the squad last Thursday, and two more are expected to join again this afternoon. Drinkwitz explained that the team is still working out a few scenarios in terms of the virus.

Lastly from today’s press conference, Coach was asked about his thoughts on this year’s LSU team. “Defensively, you cannot look at LSU like they operated last year”, Coach said. This year’s LSU team includes a mix of new and old faces that present new challenges. Offensively, Drinkwitz is planning on a similar scheme to last year’s. “They do a lot of the same things as last year with different players”.

We’ll keep a close eye on the weather this week as well. Tropical storms are expected to hit Louisiana this week which may postpone or re-locate the Tiger v Tiger showcase.
