Albert O is fast... and other Combine & #NewZou notes
(more on our Queen, Karissa Schweizer, later)
First, a wholly accurate depiction of Albert O’s speed.
Albert O is wicked fast, if you didn’t already know. So fast, in fact, that he ran the fourth fastest (unofficial) 40 time of the NFL Combine since... 2003?! And the second fastest 40 of someone his size in that timeframe? Damn.
Here’s the actual footage of him running.
6'5", 258 lbs.@MizzouFootball TE Albert Okwuegbunam runs a 4.49u 40-yard dash!
— NFL (@NFL) February 27, 2020
Would tie for fourth-fastest 40 by a tight end since 2003.

KB also is quite fast, but not Albert levels of fast.

In other KB news, his arm looks good.

Cale Garrett- surely the best smile of the Combine. So happy he’s getting healthy, and hoping someone gives him a shot— he deserves it.

Yesterday at Rock M
- Nate the Great introduced us to Coach Curtis Luper, who brings a ton of experience to the NewZou.
- Fearless Leader Sam published his famous Study Hall piece from Wednesday’s game. As my mom said, “It’s a great article by Sam, as you would expect from Sam.” If that’s not reason enough to read it, y’all aren’t even hoops fans.

- College Football Home’s Stadium of the Morning looks... familiar? Though the capacity with the South End Zone complex is something like 60k, right?

- PowerMizzou: Mitchell Forde’s Spring Football Preview began with dissecting the quarterbacks.
- PowerMizzou/Rivals ($$): Sean Williams took at closer look at the Defensive Tackle targets in the 2021 recruiting class.
- KC Star: Souichi wrote about Cale Garrett’s NFL dream, and other Mizzou players in Indy this week.
- Dennis Dodd Of CBS Sports had a lengthy and altogether entertaining piece on Coach Drinkwitz, talking about how, even though he did not top Mizzou’s list, he may just be the perfect fit for the Tigers with his energy, passion, and personality. Everyone should read it. Drink seems like a fun guy and uses some colorful language, which I’m a big fan of.
Men’s Hoops
- KC Star: Souichi wrote about the impact of Tilmon & Mark Smith in the wake of the Tigers’ recent hot streak.
- SEC Sports.com: A refresher on tie-breaker stuff when it comes to the SEC Tourney, which may be helpful information for Mizzou fans with the pecking order all sorts of congested.
- Eric Bossi, National Recruiting Analyst for Rivals, talked with 2022 5-star Bishop Miege forward Mark Mitchell about Mizzou (along with that school out west).
- Columbia Missourian: Briar Napier penned a cool story about the curious case of Reed Nikko, looking at how he’s raised his game.
- Couple of late entrances to Vandy game stories: Wilson Moore (The Maneater). Thomas Huitt-Johnson (Trumans Tales).
- Friend of the Site, Blake Lovell (Locked on SEC Podcast, among his many endeavors), shared the newest NET rankings. Here’s basketball savant Matthew J Harris’ take on it:
Still think MU needs to get inside the top-75 of net to feel better about an NIT bid. Winning two of their next three would obviously help. https://t.co/9jGSAHFxTj

- Love to see it! Next up on the schedule— home vs Mississippi State, tomorrow at 2:30pm. I’m liking our chances now that we are back to full strength.

Women’s Hoops
- The Tigers took on Auburn in their final game at Mizzou Arena on Thursday evening and lost 95-82. Missouri has one game remaining in the regular season— Sunday at Alabama.
- Despite the loss, a couple of cool stats popped up: Amber Smith is now in the Top 10 in 3-Pointers. Aijha Blackwell had ANOTHER double-double, her 5th in the last 6 games. Her stat line? 27 points on 9-14 FG and 4-7 from behind the arc. She also had 11 rebounds and 7 assists. Damn.
- PowerMizzou (free): Eli Lederman wrote a recap of the Auburn game while also taking time out to mention the attendance despite Mizzou’s difficult season. (Editor’s note: I wish I made it to more games this season- I was only at the first one)
- St. Louis Post-Dispatch: Christina Long wrote about Jordan Roundtree, who’s made the most of her senior season.
- The team celebrated the life of former coach, Willie Cox, at halftime. A lovely tribute.
Honored to celebrate the life of Coach Cox and welcome back his family at halftime of today's game.
