Welcome back to another episode of Dive Cuts with Sam Snelling and Matthew Harris.
Since we last talked, Cuonzo Martin and Mizzou have been busy at work finishing up the 2021 class, and it’s looking like a class that Cuonzo Martin has been looking for since he took over the program. Sam and Matt have a handful of thoughts on the class as well as some disagreements with how a certain writer talked about Coach Martin’s recruiting style.
To wrap up, we have a start date to the season now! Exciting, but we still need a schedule and THEN we will really get after previewing the season.
Let’s dive in.
Episode Breakdown:
:15 - 3:00: Welcome back, and before we get started, some brief bourbon/cocktail talk! What else would you expect on this here podcast!
3:01 - 21:05: Dive Cuts last talked two weeks ago, and Mizzou is now at 5 commits. A lot of local commits, which some fans like, some do not. This is a solid group of 5 though, right? Let’s dissect this class— what are the strengths and weaknesses about said commits and what does their futures potentially hold? There is a little work to be done, but it is mostly complete.
21:06 - 37:59: Sam has had a particular bone to pick for a while, so what better place to discuss it than right here on Dive Cuts? Brian Snow is a lead writer at 247 and recently wrote a piece on Cuonzo Martin and his recruiting habits/unique recruiting history. Sam and Matt have a handful of issues with it and let’s get into that.
38:00 - 52:30: The dead period has been extended to at least 2021, and we also know that the NCAA has announced the official start to the College Basketball season will be November 25th. The max number of games teams can play this year is 27, so let’s talk about what this all means! Matt still would like to play Missouri State in the non-conference season; IT JUST MAKES SENSE. We are so close to previewing season, but it is a few weeks away.
52:31 - END: Final thoughts before we wrap up, and we will see you again in two weeks!
