Welcome back Tiger Fans to another episode of Before the Box Score with Nate Edwards and Brandon Kiley! This is a beyond the box score edition of your normal football podcast because it’s time to react to what happened on the field between Mizzou and Alabama.

Nate and BK share their takeaways from Mizzou’s 38-19 loss to the Crimson Tide, which many expected but there were some good things mixed in there with the bad. We think we know who will be the starting QB moving forward, but is that the right call? The defense had a good game all things considered and we are getting a look into what Eli Drinkwitz’s offense is going to look like as the season progresses. Listen and let us know your takeaways from the game as well!

Episode Breakdown:

:15 - 5:24: Mizzou did cover the spread, so there is that. They held their own in the second half. It was a bit of a pleasant surprise. There was enough that you could see that would allow yourself to hope, which against Alabama is a good thing. Immediate takeaways would be that the secondary is a mixed bag right now. And some of the match-ups went surprisingly well in other areas of the game.

5:25 - 14:03: Shawn Robinson got the start and played pretty much every meaningful snap so it doesn’t look like there is a quarterback controversy. Or is there? BK thinks it is Shawn Robinsons, Nate thinks otherwise. DEBATE!

14:04 - 26:00: Holy smokes Drinkwitz moved Jalen Knox to the slot and that was a sign of some positive things ahead (we hope) right? Also, we certainly do not believe that was the whole Drinkwitz offense, so it could change, but what did you like or dislike from what we saw on Saturday?

26:01 - 35:38: There were some injuries on defense but overall, the defense did hold up pretty well against a team that is probably best in the country and one that is loaded with NFL talent on offense. The defense looks like it could be solid again, but a pass rush is something Mizzou fans are still looking for. Jeffcoat is probably the best one there so welcome back to him!

35:39 - 41:18: Other big takeaways from the first day of SEC football, Mizzou and otherwise! Who are the top 3 quarterbacks in the conference? Will anyone go undefeated this year? Also home field advantage does not exist.

41:19 - END: Final thoughts and takeaways before plenty of attention is turned towards Tennessee, which we will be here to preview for you later this week!
