Ah, shoot, here we go again
In his short time as Missouri’s head coach, Eli Drinkwitz has shown a flair for the dramatic, especially on social media. Drink is a prolific (and talented) Twitter user, consistently teasing fans and fellow CFB coaches with recruiting hints and witty banter. With a slow Sunday almost in the books, Drink used the opportunity to tantalize the fan base.
Big win for the CHIEFS! Big week for #NewZou22
— Eliah Drinkwitz (@CoachDrinkwitz) January 17, 2021
The tweet could mean a number of things, including the hiring of a new defensive coordinator. After all, it’s been a few days since the Football Scoops article dropped, and Drinkwitz likely will have had time to conduct interviews. Also of note: One of the names on the list was Browns’ defensive line coach Chris Kiffin, who just finished up his season after the Browns lost on Sunday night. Perhaps Kiffin can now be announced, seeing as his season in the NFL has ended?
However, the use of the #NewZou22 hashtag means that we’re more than likely looking at a recruiting victory. That win could come as soon as today, when 4-star defensive end Tyson Ford is announcing his decision. Right now, the Rivals FutureCast for Ford is 100 percent Notre Dame... but Drinkwitz has swooped in last second to grab guys from bigger schools in the past.
There’s also the matter of Toriano Pride, a 4-star cornerback out of St. Louis. One of the PowerMizzou staffers put in a FutureCast pick for Pride last week. It would be another big win for the secondary in the 2022 class, especially with Isaac Thompson already on board.
Whatever it means, we won’t have a lack of news on the Mizzou beat this week. Hopefully by week’s end we’re discussing more big recruiting news and a new defensive coordinator.

That means it’s the end of the line for Sheldon Richardson and Jordan Elliott, the former of whom had three tackles and a pass deflection in the divisional round. Congrats to Yasir Durant, who will be moving on with the Chiefs!
