Sigh.

Still can’t believe what exactly happened Tuesday night at Mississippi State? Yeah, me neither.

After the second half collapse that led to a head-scratching 78-63 loss, Mizzou dipped five spots in the daily NET rankings from 11th to 16th. Mississippi State jumped 13 spots up to No. 100.

It’s important to note that despite Tuesday night’s debacle, this team is still 7-2 on the season and currently tied for the most Quadrant 1 wins in the country with four of them. The resume is still strong — and why they’re still firmly in the NCAA Tournament picture at this point.

Things can be a whole lot worse, and I’m looking forward to never speaking of that second half ever again.

It’s just the kind of loss that can negatively change the momentum of an overachieving season thus far, so Mizzou has no other choice but to bounce back from this. And it doesn’t get any easier as a very talented LSU team comes to Columbia on Saturday night. We will see what this team is made of, as there is still plenty of season left.

Others scores from around the SEC on Wednesday night:

  • Arkansas 74, No. 9 Tennessee 79
  • Georgia 92, LSU 94 (OT)
  • Texas A&M 54, South Carolina 78
  • Auburn 61, Ole Miss 72
