Texas A&M postpones again, Mizzou Basketball is without an opponent for Saturday

Just a reminder, we’re trying to do all this in the middle of a pandemic

It looks as though the Missouri Basketball Tigers are without a home opponent for this weekends basketball game, previously scheduled to be the Texas A&M Aggies.

From the MUTigers.com release:

The Texas A&M at Mizzou men’s basketball game on Saturday, February 27, has been postponed due to a combination of positive tests, contact tracing and subsequent quarantining of individuals within the Texas A&M basketball program, consistent with Southeastern Conference COVID-19 management requirements. A make-up date has not been determined at this time.

The SEC’s COVID-19 management requirements, as developed by the SEC’s Return to Activity and Medical Guidance Task Force, are available on SECsports.com. (full report).

Texas A&M hasn’t played in a basketball game since the SEC-Big 12 Challenge back at the end of January, and this will be their 8th cancelled/postponed game since then. They’re currently 2-6 in league play with wins over Auburn and Mississippi State, and losses to South Carolina, LSU (2x), Ole Miss, Tennessee and Mizzou. The Tigers defeated A&M in College Station by 16 points back January 16th.

It’s not clear what the program will do with the open date in their schedule. The Tigers have previously missed games against Vanderbilt and LSU. But the Commodores have a home game against Ole Miss scheduled to play, and LSU is at Arkansas. So the two missing games on the Tigers schedule likely won’t be moved to this weekend. Also, A&M is currently the only program on pause, which means all other 12 teams look to be in action, making the scheduling of an in-conference opponent unlikely.

Cuonzo Martin had hinted about the possibility of looking for a non-conference game. But a lot depends on who is available.

Saturday was planned to be the honoring of Missouri’s seniors, but without a current opponent it becomes more likely to be made up the following Saturday with a rescheduled game against LSU, Vanderbilt or possibly Texas A&M.
